Do your karma points for posts go down over time?

example: if i posted something a year ago would it go from a 100 to a 4 automatically?

You know the answer. Somebody is probably downvoting you. You've brought it up in a different thread already.

Just deal with it. Kick back and enjoy plime. It doesn't matter if someone is downvoting you.

So your telling me if you went back and saw that you were missing 50+ points on stuff that you submitted a year ago on practically 8 out of ten of your posts you wouldn't be pissed?

About Plime
Plime is an editable wiki community where users can add and edit weird and interesting links. Users earn karma when other users vote on their actions. The more karma you have, the more power you have at Plime.

I just upvoted a bunch of your old stuff, does that help? I knocked you up a level too.

If you are concerned about it, contact Jax. He might help you out. There is, as I'm sure you know, absolutely nothing any of us can do about it, nor can we find out any more information than you already have gathered yourself.

I know I was simply asking if karma goes down on its own over time.

someone with a 96 karma...b*****ds!!

Sometime about a year ago the karma was readjusted by jax...some old posts show even 0 karma...unless this just happened recently, in which I will say then...nevermind what I just said.

But I thought you had recently asked the why your posts had been downvoted in another thread? I could be wrong.

So your telling me if you went back and saw that you were missing 50+ points on stuff that you submitted a year ago on practically 8 out of ten of your posts you wouldn't be pissed?
But that's assuming I would even look at points I made a year ago. If I did happen to notice them, I wouldn't care much. I know that if someone was out to get me, they probably wouldn't last long themselves.

It's the internet. Downvotes don't carry over into your real life, so there's nothing to worry about.

Despite the downvote paranoia that is clearly present here, yes they do appear to go down overtime.

this was well over 200 at one time, this, as I recall, reached 400 at one point.

Maybe I'm naiive, but I just can't see that many people going through the trouble to downvote old posts of mine.

The same can be seen in old comments. The upvotes seem to slowly fade away with time. I don't understand why, or which votes are taken into consideration (maybe it has something to do with activity?); but it does happen.

(oh, and with that many points missing you would think you'd lose a level or something, but you don't. Whatever it is does not seem to affect karma.)

They don't. Neither are you naive (well, at least not when it comes to karma - complaisance of the sexual kind is a different topic), but you're rather mistaken about the numbers. Posts never reached 400 points nine months ago (see the popular tab pp. 550). I even doubt that one had reached 300 at all back then.

Please don't fuel the speculations; posts don't go down unless someone votes. Maybe someone downvoted Shafty. That would really suck. But as Rowangrey pointed out, there's not much one could do about it.

Edited to add:
Look at this post by Jax on Aviary, for example. Only eight months ago. I'm too lazy to browse all the pages, but this one is very likely to have been one of the highest-rated of it's time. It had 237 points.

Personally, I believe it has effected all of the old posts, not just mine. And maybe it didn't hit 400, but I recall it being much higher than it is now. It's rare that any old posts maintain the higher karma level that they had achieved, included jax's one that you linked.

Posts do go down without downvotes, dammit. Especially the old ones.

As Hoosker stated above; this someone who did this downvoting appears to have a karma of 96.

Looks there is a band of 6 or 7 plimates coordinating mass downvotes on people... Sounds like entirely too much effort to me.

Please stop fueling the fires of down-vote paranoia. (winky-face)

Sigh... (winky-face).

DEP, posts going down with time would require someone to have written an algorithm and built it into Plime. Why the heck should someone (i.e. Jax) spend time and or money on that without letting anyone know? It kinda doesn't make sense - I'd suggest you just go and ask him. But I bet there's no such thing as automatic karma decrease.

Shafty didn't say that he lost 96 points, by the way. He was just giving an example. 100 was extraordinarily high one year ago (yeah, I know what you're gonna say now...).

Edit: DAMN YOU, JAX. Why the f*** am I getting those "You received a reply" e-mails again?!

I disabled that some 60 years ago! Why now? Why? Whyyyy? Make it stop! Please!

I'm not suggesting an algorithm was designed as such, but it could be an interesting side effect that only actuve members have their upvote levels retained.

For instance; and this is just a theory of mine; VoodooPeacock, who was level 20 something (?) hasn't been active in months and months and months. Because he's inactive, I believe his upvotes have similarly disappeared.

But that's just my assumption and theory. I really don't think that tons and tons of my old posts received a bunch of downvotes, but I do recall them being higher than they are now.

I guess I'll end my post with "If you think you're being downvoted, contact jax and he'll make sure."

no. No. NO. This would be the absolutely worst thing to do.

No one should go crying to daddy to complain that someone isn't playing nice.

Jax has way better things to do with his time than to be concerned over someone being downvoted. Can you imagine the volume of mail he'd get?

I think we have discovered the long secret of Plime - upvotes have a half-life and naturally degrade over time.

PLIME IS RADIOACTIVE!!!
