How to search Plime

You may already have noticed that the Plime search engine isn't the best of its kind. It doesnt speak Boolean, and it's too much of a diva to search for words shorter than four letters.

So you want to check whether a link is a dupe, or you are looking for some buried forum thread, but the Plime search refuses to cooperate. Now what?

Google is the answer. Just enter the following:

inurl:plime.com your search terms here -the -ones -you -want -to -exclude et cetera

To find forum threads, search for

inurl:plime.com/f your search terms here -the -ones -you -want -to -exclude et cetera

Suebe created a custom Google search (which does exactly what's described above) for you lazy ones to bookmark:

Forum Search

Plime Search

It works pretty well, although it might miss very new posts that haven't been cached by Google yet. Usually, it will reliably find yesterday's links - the newer ones can be found on pages one and two, anyway.

I wish we could sticky this so it stayed at the top of the forum page permanently. This is very useful info. Thanks SK. I wish I could quadruple up vote you.

Great topic, SK. I use this method occasionally, but I'm sure there are many people to whom this will be a welcome surprise.
Anyways, consider this a bump so it stays at the top.

Why don't you edit it into the opening post of this thread?

Oh, wait, I think you can't. Why don't you post it?

Oh, that one. No need to post it here; I think I still have it somewhere. I'll PM it around to everyone.

I was wondering how certain plimates were able to find ancient threads.

Why not add a URL checker to the search feature?

Have it pull a list of all submissions by domain and then search that sub listing by keyword? You could even have that happen after you add tags and try to submit.

If I put the exact URL for a submission into the search box and nothing shows up I expect that what I have will not be found to be a dupe.

Since Plime is not really making any money yet, improvements like that take time, if they are made at all. We know that the search function sucks, and we have told Jax (the owner) many times, but he's focussing on another project right now. The Google workaround is actually better than anything we ever had here.

Plus, a dupe does not necessarily have to be from the same URL as the original submission - the internet is redundant as hell. To prevent that redundancy here on Plime, please search carefully, and tag your submissions.
