I want to try and put a list together of reasons why one should upvote. Some Plimates have stated the reasons they will upvote - comments that are funny or insightful for example.
I'd like for you Plimates to list reasons why you would upvote a comment or a link.
In addition, I'd like for the rest of the community to upvote or downvote that 'reason' depending on whether or not you agree with it.
The result: Reasons with high points may be considered agreeable reasons to upvote, while reasons with low points are considered not as agreeable.
Hopefully this can bring some clarity to the upvote concept.
Since I've placed this thread in the FAQs and since I'd like to keep this as simple as possible, I ask that we keep this thread as a simple list of reasons and leave out any commentary or opinions.

If the post essentially says what I could/would have said myself, it's worthy of an upvote.
If the post makes me seriously think about something, it's worthy of an upvote.
If the link was one I appreciated being able to check out, it gets an upvote.
And that's all - those are the only reasons I ever upvote anything.

I'd like to add this in here because it's relevant. It's fundamental, and at this point we really do need to find out where others draw the line. It wasn't intended as a discussion thread. I know that I'm opening a can of worms but it's important and needs to be addressed.

I've worked out an equation that can work out to 99.9% accuracy whether a comment deserves an upvote or not. This equation also solves world hunger and can predict the next U.S. president (note: it's not who you think).
Seriously though, I upvote any comment that "benefits" plime. Whatever that means to me at the time is how I vote.
The flip side is true for downvoting.

If you make a good point, I'll upvote it. If I completely disagree, and think you make no sense, I simply won't vote. If you're being a troll, or having troll-like tendencies, then I'll downvote you.
As for upvotes, I tend to upvote points that are well made, things that make me think, laugh, and things of that nature. I've rarely run into problems with site members, and as for grudges, who needs them? What's the point?
I've said this many times before, and I'll say it many more times: I love you guys. I love this site. I love the members most of all. We really are like a family, and we're a genuine community. That's what makes us so radically different from other sites. We may bicker, and sometimes, family members will have a falling out, (i.e. Dangerman and FriedBrains) but that doesn't mean that we ousted them for having different opinions, they just became trolls after a while.
That being said, I love Plime and wouldn't change a thing. I wrote this before, and it still holds true.

I upvote when I disagree if it is worded thoughtfully.
I downvote spam
I downvote things I find offensive.
