Here's a couple other things you might find helpful:
The New User Sandbox - a good place to "practice" using all of the cool features available here.
In particular, please note the warning in the FAQ against linking to your own blog, found under "What kinds of things should I post?"

The purpose of this post is to provide Plimates with a quick, searchable directory of relevant information for new users, rather than having to scurry around the site collecting it themselves. Yes, I am promoting laziness. That's got to be a good thing, right?
