As many of you know I have cats, lots of them. Naturally, there's always a few "special" cats in a cattery. I have Jellybean, he has some neurological impairment and he's (apparently) deaf. He's a big black and white fluffy handsome fellow though, healthy in all other respects. He howls constantly (very loudly, because he can't hear it) and he has a bit of an odd walk (the neurological impairment makes him look a bit shaky). He also has an unhealthy non-fear of cars, but that's another story.
I also have Juniper (June for short). She's always been a loner, quiet, non-obtrusive, sleeps a lot with a constant and pervasive upper respiratory thing going on.
June was not a people cat, she didn't let me pet her, she never much ran around and played she just ate and slept. She'd always find some out of the way place to sleep. She'd occasionally sneeze out something repulsive but otherwise, she was no bother. She also was elsewise healthy, good weight, good appetite, etc.
Well, it's spring and in spring critters start getting "the urge". And jelly and june have "discovered" their attraction for one another.
He howls and she perks up. He comes in the room and she jumps from her perch to greet him. They sniff and entwine.
It's weird. They go at it but they're doing it all wrong. They do it in the missionary position and he's not even close to an orifice. But you know, they're having fun and they seem content. June is acting like a kitten, running around and playing with wads of paper and string. Jelly is pretty much the same but he likes to stay close to her (and not chasing my car, so that's good). June lets me pet her and likes to sleep on my computer chair with me. She doesn't seem to have the respiratory thing or at least no where near as bad.
Still- Missionary position between two cats is pretty funny to think about.
Sex cures everything.
No, they're over a year old each and this is the first I've seen of any urges. I will have to now get them fixed, just in case he manages to figure out he's about 3" off the mark.

Oh, and they will figure it out. Cats are worse than rabbits when it comes to reproducing. If the female remains intact, be prepared. She will keep you awake at night.

«Alton : How many cats do you have to have before you actually see them have sex?
I mean, besides two.
Cause I've been around cats for quite a while, and they are usually, well, more private about it.
Dogs on the other hand, are clearly exhibitionists.
Uh, they're really not that private and they're way too vocal about it too. Some male cats are just Lotharios, they'll hit anything that moves. I've seen females go without food or sleep for 5 days straight being pursued by an aggressive male and the male then went on to find another female after he'd had his fill of her (and I mean, at any point he could get her, no qualms about where). They really seem to have no discretion at all.
Many moons ago, we had a pair of kittens that were seriously inbred. Between the pair, they had 55 toes, and one had a 90 degree kink at the third vertebra of her tail. For health reasons, we never spayed a female until she went into heat. 6 months, no sign. 12 months, no sign. 2 years--no sign. We decided they were infertile.
So imagine our surprise when the hit 3 and both came into heat! We had several male cats around, but all were fixed. But oh, how those girl cats tried! Purring and rubbing, screaming, writhing on the floor in front of the males. None of the boys had a clue, and 3 were completely averse to the attention. One, a fine long haired tiger, tried. He figured out that he should be on top, but that was as far as he ever got.
The girls did manage to get out, regretfully, and encounter a tom with a bit more brains and balls. Both had litters. The one with fewer toes and no kinked vertebra made beautifl kittens, mostly siamese colored. Mom still has one from the litter, a teeny little grey point named Sky who is very shy and has a penchant for hiding underneath the covers. Rebecca, the one with the kinked tail, wasn't as good a mother. Her babies were born with vertebra kinks, some right at the end of the body. Three of the four had to be put down--they couldn't walk like a cat, could barely hop like bunnies. :(
Hopefully you have less trouble convincing the male of the correct positioning...And if his member is as well barbed as a male tom cats is, please do not feel obliged to share.
my current female cat got spayed more out of pity than of avoiding accidental litters ... when that cat went into heat, she looked like she was in pain. i don't know about her promiscuity now (she's an inside/outside cat), but she seems more subdued about things. and she got very fat ... maybe the toms have been leaving her alone for that now.
Just allow two cats and their surviving offspring to breed for 10 years. In that time, you'll produce 80,399,780 cats (this assumes two litters per year and 2.8 surviving kittens per litter).
