Opponents argue sea lions aren't the real problem, instead blaming predatory birds, deteriorating habitat and hydroelectric dams themselves.
My first thought on reading this is "what impact do the dams have on these salmon"
How can that not be a major factor?

I grew up in that area, and I have seen first hand sea lions catch a salmon, take one bite out of the stomach, then go looking for the next fish. Can you imagine how many salmon bellies it would take to fill a sea lion's appitite?

Or maybe they were teaching other young ones how to hunt.
It's not like they have the option to go to Taco bell. It is what they EAT!

they ONLY eat the stomaches....because of protections sea lion numbers have exploded in that area. we are not talking hunting the sea lions for fun...it is about trimming back numbers of preditory animals to save the salmon.
