While preparing to put his dogs into his car a street sweeper came along and sucked one of his dogs up. The dog was still on the leash. No, the dog did not survive.

When I read stories like this I think about my own dog, it makes me want to cry. For me (someone who never wants children) it would be like losing a child.

Horrible. I would be unconsolable if I watched one of my dogs being sucked into a street sweeper. What a horrible way to die.

What if it had been a toddler.

The driver needs to lose his job, or next it will be a child.

The driver of the sweeper continues to sweep streets in that neighborhood while the investigation is ongoing.
A hideous event. A callous response. This will probably all be swept under the rug (a sad, but probably true analogy, in this case), eventually.
