A Staffordshire Bull Terrier was shot by police in Croydon, South London, after police attempted to subdue it with a taser designed for use on humans.
This incident was provoked when the dog bit two police officers.
Their wounds did not require medical treatment.

The taser didn't work on the dog... big DUH! Tasers work on humans because they understand what caused the pain and comply with officers to avoid getting shocked again. Dogs don't understand and the pain simply makes them more aggressive / angry / frightened/ confused than they already were so they fight back.

In theory, but tasers work on humans, because they short circuit the nerves/muscles and make the person unable to move their limbs voluntarily. It would work the same way with a dog. However, after it stops, then the dog would be very hostile.
