Another one they missed is the first 3D character from Young Sherlock Holmes (1985). Also, Zelig integrated characters with archive footage in 1983, ten years before Forrest Gump (Gump was better though). :p

I think I was about 13 when I first saw Tron and it blew my mind. I think I'd seen 'The Abyss' by then, but that super sped-up game of worm with bikes was so cool.

I saw Final Fantasy just a week ago and comparing it to Beowulf, done six years later, I see very little improvement. In spite of some improvements in facial expression, it still looks fake, which is a shame because there are huge possibilities in using CGI to tell stories too complex to put into film without raising budgets to ridiculous amounts of money.
