Beautiful photos of real people in the world by Mary Ellen Mark. But what makes these extra special, and more touching, are the few words Mary says about each picture. Pictures range from American life, to famine in Africa, to Mother Teresa. But all of them have a compelling story.

This was a fantastic find. The pictures and stories that go with them make you think, a lot. I found the story of Amanda--the themepic--most disturbing. I wonder what became of her. Of any one of those kids.

I'm having a Mary Ellen Mark day apparently. We're cleaning and de-cluttering today and I've come across my high school journal (art journal, not diary) that page on Ms. Mark and then I was putting books on the bookshelf and put up a Mary Ellen Mark book and a portrait book that I flipped through and saw portraits by Ms. Mark in. Werid..
