Woman was detained by Customs and Border Protection because of a crude SUV sketch
They weren't concerned about what it was. They were worried about what she might do with it!

<== Yes, that's actually the sketch that caused all the excitement. Don't you feel safer now? picked by tigertony 2 months ago

« that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain; that this nation shall have a new birth of freedom; and that this government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.
Gettysburg address
I miss having a government that is for me and not always suspicious of me

Ugh - I'm not surprised. In my experience, US customs guards are nothing more than a bunch of stupid, power-hungry jerks who care more about throwing around their weight than the actual issues at hand. I think I've met one nice one, that's it. I'm not a "suspicious person" because I don't have any pictures in my wallet. I don't get how my lack of fluent francais makes my Canadian status questionable. Ah, well.

The only issue I've had with Canadian customs is that they always seem to assume everyone is smuggling cheap booze back into Canada. Since they're pretty much correct with that assumption, it doesn't bother me too much.

I wonder what would happen if you showed up at a checkpoint wearing an "I'm a terrorist" t-shirt or an Obama t-shirt pretty much the same thing to border guards. My favorite border guard story is this one.

What the French Toast!?! Google is now the background check of choice? I used to work at the Terrorist Screening Center (yes, I really did) and we never Googled anything. The Border Guards SHOULD do a simple NCIS search, and IF they find something they would forward it onto us. It was our job to vet possible terrorists, not theirs. I can't tell you how many times we would get a "I found a terrorist" call only to find that the person wasn't and they had every right to sue for harassment. Remember, you can find ANYTHING on the internet, especially Google and most of it isn't in the least bit reliable.

and back on to the topic at hand. She wasn't detained for the drawing, she was held while they reviewed her travel history. A number of countries bring up flags in the system. Most times they are just vacation or regular trips, sometimes they aren't.

Checks crochet hooks and patterns....WTF? What do border guards care about copyright infringement?

I think her project was really cool. Can't wait to see her Homeland Security blanket.

the idea and definition of terrorist has become a parody of itself. Just as the war has. just as war has.

I am not sure if freedom ever really existed, but I am certain it is dead now.

a drawing. a f**king drawing. my f**king tax dollars for a drawing. and yet countless children in this corrupt s**thole of a city i am in cannot go see a doctor without breaking their families' banks.

stop paying your debts. tell the credit companies to go f**k themselves, that you already made a $700 billion payment last month, that you think that should settle things.

We know now why it was so important for this piece of s**t tyranny of an administration and its lapdog congress to pass the new bankruptcy legislation a few years ago.

And john f**king mccain has the audacity to blame Fannie and Freddie for giving loans to low income families so that they could buy homes...wtf, John, you ragged old b***h, are the poor not allowed to own a home? there are umpteen hundred predatory lending organizations raping people and you choose F and F to criticize? "it was their fault for giving loans to people that could never pay them...." (read: poor, often non-white people).

f**k em all, ladies and gentlemen, lest thee be f**ked.

alright...that got a little out of hand and far away from the absurdity of the sketching terrorist. It is all part of the same bundle, though....maybe we should invent plime-goggles to keep these kinds of rants from taking place.
