Hey guys, just a question about the purpose of this category. Is posting links to specific deals and sales frowned upon? What about links with referral codes in them. I think if there were specific guidelines in place (as in SomethingAwful's "Coupons" forum or Fatwallet and SlickDeals forums), this place might actually become a great place to find deals.

My thought is posting specific deals and sales in the bargains forum is what it's there for.

However, I believe that this could easily be abused.....we already get tons of SPAM and SPLOGGERS who try to get you to go to their website.

If it's truly a good deal - like a one day sale or coupon for big money off - go ahead and post it.....

As far as linking to other forums - I don't know how good of an idea that would be. After a week or so, those links would be buried on page 10 and almost nobody would look at it anymore...then if someone reposted that link, they would get downvoted for a dupe.

Just be ready for the attack of the downvote if it looks like your spamming the site (which I know you won't do iZ....but then not all of the Plimates know who you are)


But, those are my thoughts....I could be wrong.

I've already experienced the attack of the downvote :). That's why I'm curious about the guidelines. There seems to be a knee-jerk reaction to downvote anything that looks like a link to a deal on a specific website - even if the site is obviously owned by a large corporation and not a specific plime member.

hmm...we should have a spam category so spammers know where to post.

I say post whatever deals you want, I've always thought they were pretty good finds.

btw, iZ... Put something in your bio!!! Maybe mention that you are the "deal sniffer" so people get an idea you ain't no stinking spammer. Of course, they may misconstrue and think you're some kind of drug pusher. You'll end up getting arrested, but think of the publicity Plime would get if you put the right spin on your trial!

How about this for a bargains category guideline:

"If if people using the bargain will benefit you, you probably shouldn't post it and should go ahead and downvote yourself for spamming."

And really, just think about whether it should be posted or not, which is more than a spammer would do. ;p

And iz, upload a pic. Like icepigs said, not all Plimates know who you are (such as myself), and having an avatar is a big hint that you're not a spammer.
