Ok, what's the difference between a Woot-Off and a normal day at Woot.com?

And I've always felt Woot.com has an ingenious way to sell stuff. Only sell one item at a time, sell only the item till it sells out, and occasionally sell crap left over in a bag of crap, at a discounted rate.

And people will love buying it!

Normal Day: One product all day. If it sells out they don't sell anything else.

Woot-Off: One product at a time. More limited quantity of product. When product sells out another product is put up. The hope of a the next woot being better motivates people to buy stuff they don't need. It's really great fun.

Wait, so on most days, they sell one item, and then nothing? What if they sell out by noon? They just shut down the website till the following day? Seems very stupid business wise.

I check Woot around 7:30 AM (Central Time) every day. There are days that they are sold out by the time I check....and yes, there is nothing else listed until the next day.

It is silly, but it is what makes them different. If they ran their business differently, they could probably generate more revenues for a while, but eventually they would just blend in with all the other thousands of online electronic stores and fall off the face of the earth or get put out of business by a larger retailer with better prices.

While they aren't maximizing their short term profits, they have created a unique site that has a huge, almost cult-like following. They've been around for over 3 years and I don't see them going anywhere anytime soon.

I had no idea what they where/are till today. Still kinda hazy but I am now going to view the site more often. Thanks in advance for putting me in the poor house.

Well, I got me a random crap. Unfortunately, i was so rushed that i couldn't see where to order 3 so I ended up with only one. Here's hoping for an x-box ;-)!!

12/11/07 Woot is great - I have ordered a few things and finally got a bag of crap. It arrived last week and I got 2 XBOX wireless gaming headsets, an XBOX game, a backpack and a GI Joe id bracelet. It was worth the $8 and alot of fun!
