Orson Scott Card Weighs In On JK Rowling's Lawsuit
Orson Scott Card, author of the Ender series, the Seventh Son series, and others feels that Rowling is basically a cowardly little wench for suing the small publisher of a 10,000-copy edition of The Harry Potter Lexicon. picked by 2manyusernames 4 months ago

Yeah, I like his work, up until I read 'The War on Christmas', or whatever it's called.
Bleh.

Not that I didn't love Ender's Game.

Okay, I'm a sad case I didn't recognize the story of Ender's Game. She(Rowling) probably read the series when she was younger and enjoyed it. Certainly she's not the first to do this, and she won't be the last. Stories have been written and rewritten for years. Being a HP fan, I'm very interested in reading the Ender's series now to see how they compare.

His comparison of the plots was more to make a point than an actual claim.

There are not that many stories out there. Yes, Harry Potter can be compared to countless other books. However, each of those books can be compared to countless others which in turn can be compared to countless others, etc, etc

Bravo Mr. Card. Bravo!

And no, the plots don't compare. One is written to a group of 10 year olds the other is written to a group of intelligent pre-teens who are beginning to see adult feelings and thoughts bud within them. The difference in their writing is the difference between a classic and 'yet another book on the Library shelf'

I enjoyed HP. I Loved Enders Game. HP was a way to pass time and it interested me, EG was a passion to get through and it enthralled me.

If Rowling had said they were similar, I would have puked. But since Card noted their similarities I'll applaud.

Probably most of us remembers this joke too:

Did anyone here read The Harry Potter Lexicon? Is it a scholarly work or is it just a mass of quotations?
If it is done like the Discworld Companion about Pratchett's series, then it is OK. Just because it is called "Lexicon" it might be an attempt to plagiarism as well.

I was under the impression it was more of a glossary to help people understand all the terms used in the Harry Potter novels.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I was always under the impression that Rowling had been planning to make a Harry Potter encyclopedia, similar to the two charity books she wrote some years ago, and that is the reason she is filing suit.

The end seems pretty unnecessary:

Rowling has now shown herself to lack a brain, a heart and courage. Clearly, she needs to visit Oz.
