High school principal and valedictorian punished after BOTH of their graduation speeches were found to be plagiarised
High school principal and valedictorian punished after BOTH of their graduation speeches were found to be plagiarised
After doing all the hard work to reach their respective positions, apparently they couldn't resist the temptation to take the easy way out on this last day.

What makes you think they worked hard to get to their respective positions?

You know, I have a very Dutch/European view on the matter.

We don't have prom nights, we thus don't have a prom queen and king, we don't do those elections in schools to pick the class president, heck we don't do graduation speeches.

Why the damn focus in everything on popularity in the US. School should be about education, not who is the most popular and most beloved in school.

Granted, it is not very nice to plagiarise a speech, but I don't give a hoot about something that could easily be said in one word: "Thanks"

Having an English education - I'm right there with you.

No prom, no stress.

Hmph. I agree - it's such a fuss over a speech that can be essentially boiled down to "so long, and thanks for all the fish".

Superintendent Alan Leis

“Again, we sees these events as serious breaches of our standards and an aberhation from the norm,”
We sees? What sort of an education did school superintendent Leis receive?

Sees can be used in "he sees" "she sees" "The school sees", but not "we sees"

Or am I mistaken and "we sees" is acceptable grammar?

In any case, way too big a fuss over a meaningless valedictorian speech.

I doubt it's an aberration from the norm, I'm pretty sure that most students cheat

The valedictorian position isn't a popularity contest or a vote, it's whoever has the highest GPA in the graduating class.
