According to the Lavaca County Sheriff's Office, Taylor Michalec's grandfather said he was walking behind the teen when the trigger on his AK-47 assault rifle snagged a branch and discharged, striking the teen in the back.
*Why do you need an AK47 to hunt???

ok, seriously I feel bad for the grandfather and the rest of his family. He must feel awful. A teens death is extremly sad

No one hunts with AK-47's as far as I know.

An AK47 would be a black market purchase. I'm betting it was actually a legal refabrication (which means its semi-auto not fully auto). Though it wasn't really made for hunting you could still use it to great effect in certain close range game hunting, like boar hunting etc, where iron sights are ok.
That being said, always have your safety on and ALWAYS practice muzzle control.

When walking through brush or anything that might snag the trigger, keep your hand over the trigger guard.
