Didn't think this was worthy of a news article but for disussion in the forums.

Fees. There are some fees that I can tolerate, other are just outright outrageous. They call them "convenience fees" and they are convenient for WHO? The Ticketmaster ones are ones that I despise. A few years ago they recommended you get the emailed tickets (free at the time). Nowadays you pay a fee to have them email you the tickets and if you have them mailed to you it is actually cheaper! How can that be? Email is now more expensive than snail mail!

What kind of fees do you encounter?

Sounds like the IT department is just lazy and lumps all additional fees into the "Lab Fees" category. It's probably a fee to recoup some "office hours" time for TAs or something.

I recently found out that a debit card I have carries a 25 cent fee if I use it as a debit card...if I make a purchase with it and have to key in a PIN, then they charge me a quarter. I will be changing banks for sure when I find one that does not do this.

I am quite disgusted by this practice. It is so prevalent these days, I would not be surprised to see a tax for taking a sh*t to be mailed to me.

My only consolation is that the people who come up with this sh*t will be second against the wall when the revolution comes. You can bet your ass that I WILL be charging them a "convenience fee" for the bullets that will rip through their skulls. The last words they will ever hear will be "Share and Enjoy"
