The concept of dividing humans into races based on physical traits have been around since ancient times. The location of Egypt probably has a lot to do with it being one of the ancient civilizations that divided humans into races based in part on traits such as skin color. They also felt that the races were not created equal. When the darker skin egyptians were in power then had derogatory labels for the lighter skin egyptians and vice-versa.
The idea of races and how they were defined changed quite a bit over the years. In ancient times family and tribe connections meant more - probably because these sort of differences were more commonly seen
The concept of humans being divided into different races started to gain precedence in Columbus' time.
The idea of different classes of races with whites being on top was an European invention which only makes sense due to Europe's power and the policies of exploring, trading, and colonizing. This grew worse in the 17th century and into the 18th and 19th centuries when white Europeans would try to use science to back up their claims of superiority.
America got into the game very late. The census bureau got into much later.]]>

All I'm saying is that the US Census did not create the concept of race. There have been racial problems long before the US Census Bureau began to include race and ethnicity in their poll.If you go back to your original post and my reply to it, I agreed with two of your three points. My only disagreement is with the point that the US or the US Census is to blame for racial tension because they classify the population. The inclusion of race and ethnicity was originally for good and honest intentions. Has the laws of our country gone oveboard in some cases with race and ethnicity (read 'Political correctness")? Yes, absolutely. I just don't agree that the problems can be laid at the feet of the US or the Census bureau.]]>

I have been in the United States for almost 20 years (since 1989, yes I am a citizen) and I cannot tell you how discusted I am with the divide this sort of specification makes.
I am NOT latino, because:
1. I am not italian
2. I do not speak Latin.
The only reason why the continent is dubbed "Latin America" it is because the continent's primary language is Spanish and the root of Spanish is Latin.
I am, however, hispanic, because:
1. I came from Spain (checked and checked; Basque country and Valencia)
2. I speak Spanish.
Hispanic is the correct term. Latino came about because a whole bunch of Americanized Mexicans decided not to like the fact that Spain is the 'Mother Country"; something about a war and some massacre or other... I digress...
Point of the matter is that you cannot deny what you are from your past, but you should leave the past there, in the past.

The example you gave deals more with a question of nationality, not race.We didn't invent the census. It was around long before the founding fathers put the census in the constitution. And yes, racial tension would still exist if there wasn't a US census. Racial tension has been around thousands of years before the US ever came to be. Unfortunately bigotry doesn't need labels to exist. It just needs ignorant parents passing their hatred along to their children.]]>

This is all because the red blobs of goo published bogus scientific studies saying that the teal blobs were carriers of the silver goo's gene for sliminess.
The silly thing is, that instead of fealing a stronger bond to the teal goo, the silver goo started to shun the teal goo - viewing them as lesser than the red goo, but not as true to their heritage as the silver goo.
This was all exacerbated by the formation of the Red-Silver Goo Alliance (RSGA), established by the red goo as part of their plan to lower the teal middle class. The alliance has the silver goo practically worshipping the red goo, as it is the first time in millenia that they have felt power anything like that of the red or even teal goo.
The orange goo is trying to stay neutral, knowing that the findings were fabricated, yet fearing that they would be next if they step into the middle of the situation. After all, it is the red goo that controls the majority of the reputable media sources.
Neutrality, however, has proven to be difficult for the orange goo.
It has been especially hard on business-owning blobs of orange goo. Theye are facing pressure from RSGA to hire silver goo, but for every blob of silver goo they hire, they have to turn down one of their own orange applicants. On top of the feeling of hurting their own people, they have the guilt of letting down the innocent blobs of teal goo, who could use any help they can get at this point. Regardless of who they hire, orange goo-owned businesses are suffering.
Red goo owned businesses will now only hire red goo for management positions and silver goo for lower jobs (both levels of work used to be done by orange or teal goo). The teal goo has been doing less and less business with the red, but the red businesses aren't really feeling it since there is a massive movement of silver goo conducting business with only red goo.
As for teal-owned businesses, they will now only hire teal goo, regardless of the position.
As the teal have started to rebel, areas with a high teal population have become dangerous for any goo but teal, and the few remaining orange business owners who are standing up to the red goo and still hiring teal goo employees. Organized crime is also on the rise, among all categories of goo.
Contributing to the issue of crime is the fact that fewer and fewer pupils are attending school, particularly in schools that used to pride themselves in their diversity. Instead of learning to be accepting of others, they are hanging out in the streets and forming gangs.

Technically, Hispanic and Latino isn't really a race. There are white hispanics / latino, black ones, asian ones (see Peru and Ecuador, there's a very large population of people there who are descendents of asians)... So this ridiculously formatted question is trying to show that they understand there's several different "races" within this one category of Hispanic or Latino.
I am what could be considered a white hispanic or latino. (Don't get me wrong, I'm not painfully white to the point that I 1) can't jump and 2) need to put sunscreen on if I have to take out the garbage) So if I were a moron, and had to fill out this form, I would know not to click the white option.
