Monday morning isn't usually my most favourite time to be in work however this morning was different.
Work has been very stressful of late, we have lost staff members and had trouble finding good replacements, that coupled with the fact that we are expanding at a ridiculous rate and having our busiest year since opening have led to long working hours extreme workloads and general ball aching tiredness.
Our MD came in this morning with a big grin on his face, last month my branch broke all records for turnover, sales space rented (I work in a self storage facility), in fact it has been the best month since we started trading nearly 3 years ago.
He gave us both a little speech about how proud he was and how the rest of the company should look up to us and aspire to be like us and so on and to be fair I did feel a sense of pride just hearing his speech.
Then he produced the motherload, in addition to a nice bonus at the end of the month he has also paid for both of us to have a flying lesson. He figured he could have given us the money for it but we would have spent it on mundane things and wanted us to have something special.
I love my job and wish I had found a company like this years ago.
Count your blessings. My wife recently got a promotion to Manager because the previous one had retired after many years at the company. The boss threw a big retirement party for her and gave her and her husband several parting gifts, some funny and some serious. He saved the best for last and made a big show of telling a story about how she was there from the very beginning and how she had helped him launch the company. And while he hated to lose her, he wanted her to enjoy her retirement and presented her and her husband with a coupon for a cruise. Everyone clapped and my wife and I looked at each other and thought about when she retired. My wife had been there almost as long and would end up being there even longer. Cool, we can go on a cruise some day too!
The ex-boss calls my wife a month or two later and come to find out, the great fantastic cruise was if you showed up and listened to a 3 hour spiel about time-shares or property or some such, and then, after verifying that you were there for the enitre presentation, they took you out on a little day trip on a boat for a few hours to tour the bay.
He got some promotional crap in the mail and pased it off as this great retirement gift.
The ex-boss was furious and my wife was mortified. I guess we know what to expect now.
«davbob : in addition to a nice bonus at the end of the month he has also paid for both of us to have a flying lesson. He figured he could have given us the money for it but we would have spent it on mundane things and wanted us to have something special.
Almost exactly like my boss. He also takes flying lessons. I guess he could give us the money for it as a bonus, but we would spend it on mundane things, so he keeps it instead.

I got a crappy gold-colored pin to wear (yea, right) after my 10 years at Big Fat University. My series of stellar reviews yielded a whopping 2% raise last year; probably less this year.
Oh, and we spent $45 million on the aerial tram project.
It's awesome to have a job where you are truly appreciated for your hard work and dedication.
Enjoy!!!
I wish I could say the same. I just spent two weeks frying my brain and busting my @ss to get a VTC with Gen Petraeus to work with equipment I have never touched before and never even received a "Thank you". :(
