U.S. Gov't to Release New Dollar Coins
U.S. Gov't to Release New Dollar Coins
An AP-Ipsos poll found that three-fourths of people surveyed oppose replacing the dollar bill, featuring George Washington, with a dollar coin... so they created another coin we aren't going to want. picked by Browntrout 2 years ago

I don't really see a point in hanging onto 1 dollar bills. Europe does just fine with minimum of 5 EUR bills and 1 and 2 EUR being coins.

Finland doesn't have 1 and 2 cent coins, the smallest being 5 cent. All prices get rounded to nearest 5 cents. Netherlands adopted the same policy recently.

dollar coins means no more fighting with vending machines to accept crumpled bills.

I'm all for it.

I think it would also mean vendors rounding the cost of all those items "up" to a dollar.

Two words... Duct tape!

Or maybe strippers could tie a piggy-bank to their g-string.

Then again, there are always fives!

I, myself, would love to see everything rounded up to the next nickel especially if the rounded result would be more items with 25 cent, 50 cent or even dollar prices.

I'd love to only have quarters and dollar coins in my pocket and not to have to flip out my wallet so much. Then change machines could cash 5, 10 and 20 dollar bills and dispense dollar coins. Right now, if you cash a 5 dollar bill in a change machine, you get 20 quarters. With dollar coins you would only get five coins and, worse case, if you did a twenty, it would be no worse than what you get now with a five.

And just think... What kind of fantastic publicity (and additional business) companies, grocery stores or retail chains would get if they advertised that they actually ROUND-DOWN prices based on the "real math" of it.

Then I could continue to drill holes in pennies and use them for washers - with less guilt.

(edit: And please don't give me any crap for my advanced math skills. I have an "MO" degree - Master of the Obvious)
