Hmm, I'd heard Toyota was also working on Lithium-Ion batteries with plug in capability, for the Prius. It was supposed to give the Prius 200 mpg for the first 40 or so miles. After that, 80 mpg or something like that.

They were going to release it in the 2009 version, but don't have all the kinks with the batteries worked out. I think they are now talking 2010 for fleets, and possible the following year for the public.

EDIT: I have no sources except the tons of forums I've read through lately.
