It's nice to know that while this news means some of us will skip vacations, days out with our family, change our menus from steak or chicken breast to pasta or peanut butter and jelly, these people who's biggest quandry in life is which wine to have with lunch are whooping it up.

Isn't it amazing how one sentence from one man can change the face of the entire world? Threaten another nation and the whole world is affected.

Of course, it's not the first time, nor the last.

i hate that we are so dependent on one industry. irritates the hell out of me. luckily my wife and i both have pretty efficient cars and i am able to telecommute 2 days a week.

i highly recommend proposing the telecommute option if it is viable for what you do...it is a great way to save money on fuel and sanity by not making the commute so often!

What has always amazed me is that someone with no connection to the oil industry might say that a dog has peed in their rose bushes and somehow the speculators will find some link and thus the price of oil gets raised, yet again. The IT industry is growing also, but I wish I had found a way into the oil industry early on.

"As we all know, the supply is adequate and demand is down, and yet these prices are going up,"

Someone is obviously getting rich while we are all being screwed. This is like messing with the water supply.

Everybody else seems to be rejoicing at the oil prices except us because for some odd reason we won't pull our rigs out and drill.

I sold my car, cheaper to chip in on gas with friends and family. It is the first time since I was 15 years old that I did not own at least one car.

Many reasons this is going on, biggest one is the oil companies no it is over. Oil is on it's downturn and more and more people are looking for alternative ways to get around.

Besides here in the states we have an a*****e who's family has a stake in the oil business ruining our country, thank the gods that piece of s**t is on his was OUT.

I think this is a fairly misleading article in that all of oil country is NOT rejoicing.

I grew up in an oil town/family in Northern Alberta, and the bad still far outweighs the good in the increased prices of oil. A lot of people rely on big trucks to get them to where the oil is, and ridiculously long commutes into the backwood are the norm. "Conserving" or cutting down fuel use isn't really an option there. Fuel prices are some of the highest in the country there, which was NEVER how it used to be and is especially foul since that's where the oil comes from and is processed.

Combined with the fact that the workers at stage one of getting the oil have not gotten any significant pay raises, and they're consistently told to cut costs - leading to some of the highest rates of workplace injuries - while the head of the companies are giving themselves substantial raises...this whole thing is ridiculous and insulting. The very people who work the hardest in Oil Country are not reaping the benefits of high prices.

You hit the nail right on the head... "the speculators" carry the lion's share of the blame.
