Please listen to me! I'm too stupid to live!
Local Story, this kid, after being repeatedly warned not to play with gasoline and other odd things, threw a leather glove full of gasoline on a fire. He was burned over 75% of his body, barely scraped through, blah blah blah.

Now he's enjoying the celebrity of being an "I learned the hard way" spokesman. There was a huge fund drive locally to help pay for his bills.

I'm sorry, if you've been warned so many times and still do it, either you're too stupid to be left alone or just really really defiant. I won't contribute to saving you, nimrod. Survival of the fittest, dude. picked by bevissimo 6 months ago

He's going to tell the nation about the dangers of playing with gasoline?! Well, I guess Captain Obvious has a new sidekick.

wow. and the world foots the bill.

...Which is the exact reason that I decided to not go into medicine. I'm pretty sure the parents would sue if I told them I didn't wish to operate on their son due to the circumstances of his stupidity.

well, I tried to see if there already was a sidekick, but this is all I got:

"Captain Obvious is said to have an archnemesis in "Captain Oblivious". Captain Oblivious is used to describe people who seem to know what they're saying (and usually try to insult people who disagree, even though they're actually the ones who are right), but actually have their facts completely wrong. Additionally, "Professor Subtle" is the antithesis of Captain Obvious."

I may be wrong and I'm going to google it but doesn't Shriners offer free care, much like Deborah Hospital in NJ? Yeah, I'm right.

So what are the bills? Flying around the US making a public spectacle of your stupidity?

Since he's recovered well enough to play football and wrestle he should get a paper route and earn the bill money.

I don't know. There are "Help Austin Bailiff" collection cans all over town since this happened. It really ticks me off. One of my dear friends kid got even closer to death through some neurological means, hospitalized for months, still using a walker, and no support whatever.

Well, I know they must insurance, the mom works for Child Protection Services, so they'd have good family benefits, wouldn't you think?

Then again, life seems so hypocritical sometimes.

Often times, those collection boxes are started up by someone other than the family. Just saying.

The headline made me laugh, because I used to know a curmudgeonly old man who used to tell me, "Boy, you're too stupid to live!" --for no particular reason, I might add.

Anyway, since he's dead now, it's been a while since I'd heard the phrase, and it made me laugh.

Oh, and I agree with the general sentiment here.

For the greater good, man. The greater good ... but in this case, it simply doesn't apply. I would think that the risk of playing with gasoline has long ago seeped into the human psyche ... but I could be wrong. Stupid seems to be spreading like fire! HA!

I'm afraid the hippocratic oath states, "First, do no harm." :-/

Actually, that is a common misconception. I'm not sure where it comes from, but the phrase "First, do no harm." is not in the hippocratic oath.

I upvoted you but, for the record, fats burns at a high rate - ever hear of a grease fire? The boy was a walking candle, but only half as intelligent.

Oh I know that, I was being sarcastic. ALTHOUGH it is possible the fat protected the more important tissues in time for the fire to be put out - even if it does burn faster than said tissues. It's hard to say if that contributed at all.
