There's some pretty pathetic transcribing in that article. In addition to the as-quoted "xcuse" and the seemingly random-placed carriage returns, there's also this:

"Prosecutors learned in court last week that a clerk had istakenly noted in court records…"

Obviously, I'm not faulting you, mutil8or, for linking it, but whatever happened to proofreading?
