some people have no clue what is at stake when they get behind the wheel and are inebriated. it's really inconsiderate carelessness but alcohol is numbing.

I refuse to believe that anyone in our day and age could have somehow missed what is at stake when they drive under the influence of almost any type of drug. Some people are just idiots who don't care what the risks are.

No matter how much, or little, I've had to drink, I've never thought I should drive.

I was hit on a motorcycle when I was 17 by a young idiot who was pissed to the gills. It was a BMW and the only thing that saved my leg was the sticky out cylinder head. Massive damage to one side, but I walked. I hate people who are thoughtless enough to drink under the inf.

Same age... I was in a car with friends. The driver, who I didn't know, was stoned on acid. We went up an overpass where traffic was leaving a busy highway the WRONG way and almost had a head-on with a COP! He let the kid off and got one of us to drive him home.

You can't drive a car under the influence of anything!

I know some people with very casual attitude towards it. I think everyone who drives under influence should be charged with attempted vehicular manslaughter.

Ditto to cellphones. There's research out there that shows driving while running your yap on a phone impairs you just as badly as being intoxicated. I can't hardly go more than a mile from home without seeing at least asswipe swerving all over the lane, missing a light, or almost rear-ending someone, a cell glued to their ear the whole time. And you just know the conversation that's so vitally important they're endagering people's lives for goes something like, "Honey, I can't remember if you wanted the chunky organic peanut butter or the smooth?"

I know this is a serious thread, but this is one of the best typos of all time.

I recently saw the mythbusters where they tested cell phones vs being over the legal limit. The cell phone was significantly more distracting and dangerous - though they failed both the tests.

A friend who recently got a DUI was actually on the side of the road changing a tire when the officer came to his aide and smelled beer on him.

in that case, he wasn't even driving... so I think it's possible for it to be circumstantial.

Another friend got smashed and permanently disfigured by a drunk who ran a light.

I think it's not that people don't take DUIs seriously enough, but they don't take the responsibility of a 2000lb weapon seriously.

Yeah, I have to admit coming from a small town lots of my friends take it very lightly. They'll have some drinks and then say that they're not that drunk, or that they've done it before and didn't get in an accident.

They seem to forget that the people that kill themselves and/or others, probably made the same stupid excuses.

Although I will admit I drive after smoking pot, but I really think I smoke enough of the stuff that it doesn't affect me(another stupid excuse?).

In Tallahassee, everybody drives drunk. It's horrible. I know so many people at school who got DUIs, or into accidents, or just get lucky. It really worries me. One kid I know just totaled a car and got a DUI while drunk and tripping on f**king acid. How stupid can people be? s**t worries me.

I drove drunk once. about 11 years ago when I was 20 I drove drunk underage from Santa Barbara to my house 40 miles away. I remember getting on the freeway and thats about it. I woke up the next morning in my front yard. It was quite possibily the dumbest thing I have ever done. I'm very ashamed of the fact I made such a braindead decision but I learned a lesson from that night. ya'll know me and know I like to drink just a little, but there really is no justifible reason to drive after the drink. When me and the wife go out now we take turns being the DD or we take a cab. when I was in the navy DUIs were common and pushed under the rug. i never understood the rational behind the lax punishment for making a horrible decision.
