> Alright Plimates, I have an interesting topic I'd like to discuss and debate:
> Should prostitution be legalized (or at least decriminalized) in your respective countries? If it is, do you support this or would you rather see it made illegal?
> Should it be legal only for one gender and maybe not for the other or the other way around? (whatever the other way in your opinion is)
> I'd love to hear your thoughts on the topic.
This question came up because of Mershaullk's note on pot:
when the thread started to go a bit off.
Some of the credit belongs to tundramonkey for starting the first Legalize it type of thread. Maybe this should be a subcategory under Crime.

I personally draw no distinction between the production of pornography and prostitution. I'd say it is defacto legal in the US as is. Oh yeah...girls paid to have sex on camera are being paid to be IN the movie not to have SEX in the movie, yeah...mmm k.

Idunno...I think that if it were goverment regulated, it would bring in a lot of new taxes and maube help us out of this trillion dollar debt. The USA would be saved by sex. Hurray sex!

It should most definitely be legalize. Again, there is no logical reason why it shouldn't be legalized.
If it was legal, the vast majority of the bad parts of prostitution would be solved.
Yes, there would still be people who would cross the line, there would still be problems, but they would be a small percentage of today's problems.
Obviously there would be oversight of prostitution. There would be licenses, health checks, verification of age, verification that there is no corecion , verification of proper pay to all parties etc etc.
It is also hypocritical. You can have sex for any reason but money. It is the woman's body, let her do with it as she pleases as long as no one is harmed.
I have always wanted to start this business model:
I would open a school to teach people how to act in adult films. People would sign up for classes. I would discuss some of the pointers and methods of acting and how they differ for adult film stars.
After the class there would be a final exam where they get to try out their new found knowledge.
You would catch a lot of flak, but I would contend it would be legal.
I have been wanting to do that for many many many years now. Haven't yet, but a man has to have a dream. :)

I think we would be better off if all those things were legal... what do we get by having them illegal? druglords? pimps? unchecked disease? minors?
We repealed prohibition why not this?

Oh yeah...girls paid to have sex on camera are being paid to be IN the movie not to have SEX in the movie, yeah...mmm k. They dont have sex when the movie is made. Not more than a gynecologist has sex during checking the uterus or the breasts for cancer. Actually I have seen gynecologist having more satisfaction in his job than some porn actors (male) that I know. I never envied them. Neither did I the ladies in that business. They work hard to give you a hard on, so far I haven't seen any really enjoying it.

« drewski : just another great way to spread more diseases =/ I think legalized means some safety control. Also it can turn into a low pay job from a high pay job just by making it legal. As it is there are college students who can make a decent living on prostitution related occupations, but if it gets legit it might turn into a job that is like landscaping: too low payed and too dirty to be done by anyone but the immigrants.

Yeah I agree the tanning bed/gym set is doing a job but the new frontier of "reality" porn is basically straight up paying people to have sex on camera, that is prostitution by third party even if the guy who is writing the check ain't getting his d**k wet.

I could also see it causing a lot of problems with casual sex, too. Someone could claim rape, and the other could counter claim that she/he paid them. As of right now, any sex/rape claims lean to one side of the fence, but with it legal and happening everywhere it would make the investigation part A LOT more involved.

i think it should be! if you did you could regulate it, which means people doing it can be regulated, and well as their clients. there would be less chance of them geting any diseases or in danger etc as everyone would be checked. i just think if was legalised, would be alot safer for both the people visiting prostitutes, and for the prostitutes themselves.
and imnotyoo, i love those comic strips, even if they do disturb me at times...

Prostitution would be legal but controlled and licensed. It wouldn't allow everyone to engage in prostitution where ever and how ever. You could no more make a claim that a alleged rape was a paid for act than you could currently.

Rape is a completely different issue. If you want you can make a thread on "if it should be made legal". Rape is difficult to prove, and difficult to disprove. Well if there were violence than it is easy to prove, but if someone gets a girl drunk, and then she agrees, that still counts as a rape the next day. Mostly the lady's word is accepted on it. This can be especially dangerous in teacher-student relationships in colleges. One of my buddies were arrested on a Saturday morning for rape, and he got out of custody only on Monday, and he didnt even touch the girl, haven't even met her outside of class, just failed her in Algebra. Well he was African but not US citizen, the girl was local and white, and it happened in a southern state so the local police was understandably very paranoid on the case.

As long as it WAS controlled to the point that it was only allowed at certain "licensed" businesses. Would legalizing it, however, make it so that it is controlled or do you think it would cause a state of confusion?

Why would there be confusion? Is there confusion on who can practice medicine, distill whiskeys and whatnot, or any of a million other legal practices that are controlled/licensed?

You should visit a studio once in a while. When they have sex on camera you will not see much. If you see things happen it is the result of choreography, lots of retakes, inserting the limbs, the camera and lightings to places where they don't belong during anything enjoyable. They pay gynecologist for "getting their hands wet", nobody sane would accuse them with being prostitutes.
