Remember Colombine, remember VT, remember the Amish school, If those didnt happen first this probably wouldnt have been a big deal.I do remember them. Then of course, all of these school shootings just go to prove that it isn't going to be prevented if someone really wants to do it. Unless there are metal detectors and armed cops in every hallway. I'm sorry, but if I were shooting up my high school, the 68-year-old hall monitor is going to be relatively powerless to stop me.
My old high school, since I've graduated (thank God) has pretty much turned into a prison. The students and teachers are all miserable as a result. Morale is through the floor. But in spite of all the ridiculous policies they put in place to make the school appear to be safe, it's still just like any other high school. A student can still walk in with a gun and shoot whoever the hell he/she wants, because there are no metal detectors, and no armed guards. When it comes down to it, it is absolutely no safer today than it was before that school shooting before Columbine even happened. It's actually just worse, because everybody is miserable, therefore that much more likely to want to kill someone.
I'm not saying there should be metal detectors and armed cops. I'm saying the opposite. I'm saying we need to lighten up. I think threats should be taken seriously, and students found making threats should be dealt with in a serious manner, but don't make up bulls**t security rules and regulations if they actually don't make any difference at all.
s**t like this is gonna happen. It's tragic. Don't get me wrong, because it absolutely is.
