The Westboro Baptist Church protested the service with signs reading "Pray for More Dead Kids," "Don't Worship the Dead" and "God Sent the Killer". What absolute scum.

Westboro Baptist Church......
Scum is not even close to what these humans(?) are.
I think that total waste of carbon based material
is a bit more accurate.

I like to think there's a special place in Hell waiting for them.

As far as I can tell, this is what they believe.

As much as I hate the idea of the government using violence against its own citizens, I sometimes wish that someone would just send a handful of special ops troops over there.
Convert a few heads into a fine red mist and the problem is solved.

I'm spiritual, I have my own beliefs and I live by them. This kind of stuff makes me want to go and study the bible as hard as I possibly can, march down to the next protest these people have, and completely destroy them in terms of what the believe to be right.
Honestly, if they were any form of self respecting christians they would understand to love everyone, and to not judge, as that is not their purpose.
Its sad though, cause they will never change their minds, and will instead through page after page of nonsensical doctrine at me to make me feel incompetent, but in turn only making them look like idiots.
I am spiritual, but I refuse to ever push my views on anyone, if youre curious, sure Ill talk to you about it, but otherwise, its not my place. Im just curious as to how much longer this happens until they piss off the wrong person, and they dont sue, but instead, they burn the church down on a sunday morning with everyone inside.
Not to be morbid or anything.

Not to be morbid or anything. The media has tried to use that "I know more than you do" approach on them but they are very schooled in the art of manipulating scripture and using it to their own ends. They truly believe they are doing God's work on earth, as twisted and sick as it might seem. I have said it before that everyone should just ignore them. The more we cover it in the press and give them a public forum they will continue to spread their drivel.

I completely agree, its why I just have given up on thinking of ways to stop them, short of their death. Because they are doing NOTHING positive for their religion, in fact they are just starting up more hatred.
The only thing I can think of is to protest a Funeral they have. Just march around with really spiteful and hateful signs when one of their church members die.
EDIT:
So I just read the article again, and Im even more upset then I was the first time, as I read it in a half drowsy state the first time. Im glad they had opposition but the thing he bothers me is that they think God hates. It is completely against all biblical reason that God hates, he doesnt hate, he cant hate, its not his way. So for them to say that God hates Reno? How freaking stupid are you.

I think it should be the other way around. Turn the tables on them. Don't protest, show up and be respectful and show them the true meaning of love and grace.

On the other hand, they are extremists. They also crave attention. I'm not sure I want to find out what else they're capable of to get the attention they want. After all, there are quite a lot of verses in the Bible that tell people to act violently.

Apparently, God hates Reno.
They announced this when a Reno cop refused to arrest a group that stood between them and the family at a funeral. We managed to cramp their style without confrontation and they do not like that. (Here's hoping that you all have the privilege of their declaration that "God hates <insert your town>". It means you have struck a nerve and scared them (at least a little), and done so in such a way they cannot profit by it. Hearing that declaration by this group for the first time made me very proud of my community! (full disclosure: I actually live in a small town about 50 miles south of Reno, I just work in Reno.)
They found this girl about 500 yards from where I work. She had been missing for a while, and they say she was under the snow for at least a week. I drove past her at least 20 times, and looked over that field about 100 times, and never knew she was there. We will catch this guy. He will find out that rural Nevada is a bad place to be a serial killer. (We have the death penalty, and we will use it. They may have to execute him just to avoid seeing him lynched.)

Add to that The Bible is such a hotch-potch of different ideas from different authors that you can find passages to say pretty much anything you want - especially if you quite it out of context.
I like your idea of attending one of their funerals with quiet dignity though. That would really confuse them.

"Pray For More Dead Kids." How very Christian of them to blatantly condone the acts of a serial rapist-murderer at his victim's funeral as a way of protesting the city of Reno. w.t.f. I admire those who can express calm and rational behavior where they're concerned..personally, I would never want their very public displays of hatred and insanity to go unchallenged. 'Sins of silence makes cowards of men' (Abraham Lincoln) comes to mind.. That's not to say I'd fight them with their own tactics, but rather via the legal system..which I know is ongoing.. They can't be allowed to continually commit hate crimes under the guise of First Amendment rights. Time will tell.. :(
I know this has all been discussed before, but each time it happens I am outraged all over again.

Yes, these people strike one hell of a chord in all of us. What amazes me is that they actually believe the crap they spew.
I know, for sure and certain, that if these crack heads showed up at any funeral I was attending, I would be in jail. There is no way I would be able to refrain myself from beating the living daylights out of one of them.
I know that violence is not the answer. In their case, I don't care.

Possibility of misinterpretation and twisting? Absolutely. But it's surprisingly fluid for having been written in a several hundred year span.
Now, WBC? I half expect them to be Undead Pedo-Nazi's razed by a demon necromancer.
