26-year secret kept innocent man in prison
Alton Logan doesn't understand why two lawyers with proof he didn't commit murder were legally prevented from helping him. They had their reasons: picked by 1only 9 months ago

Wow. WOW.

Well there is that client/attorney privilege and the penalty for breaking it is being disbarred.

I realize these are public defenders, they make no money (comparative to private practice attorneys and your average union worker) but how could you live with yourself?

I don't know because I'm not in that situation but I do think I would have accepted being disbarred. Really, how could you not?

That pisses me off. I say we throw the attorneys in jail for 26 years and see if they feel it's worth their jobs.

The privledge goes beyond that.

If a lawyer broke privledge and wanted to testify to the fact that HIS client did it, the testimony would be thrown out. It's privledge and therefore inadmissible.

There has to be some way they could have kept confidentiality and still helped this man though. Send a letter pointing the police in the right direction, testify as to his innocence without revealing your own client. Stand UP.

This is the crap that makes people hate lawyers, and I'm with them. How could you claim you serve a 'justice' system knowing what you had done?

I believe a human's ultimate authority is his good conscience. Even for lawyers and the police, laws are not to be applied at all cost.

hey, HERE'S an idea!!

You send in an anonymous letter that says that you know WHO did the crime, with HOW the police can find the evidence and related info.

Other than that, both these lawyers deserve to be sued for EVERYTHING down to their last buck for what they did.

There is ALWAYS a way to take care of business, if they truly cared about the law they would have found a way to defend this man. PERIOD. They were more concerned about their own asses.

If you disagree with me, just think about how many ways you could discredit an investigation if you knew about it, without anyone knowing that YOU did that, in order to save an innocent man.

These lawyers are the same scum of the Earth that we think about the rest of them. If they were REALLY, REALLY that concerned they would have GIVEN UP their bar status to save this man, but they didn't, so F**K them.

Honestly, F**K them. I hope they reap what they sowed.

he's 54 so a 26 year secret.. 28 years old when they locked him up.. theres a lot of life that could have been lived from 28-54. many things that he won't ahve the chance to do over.. You only live once.. and some of the most crucial points in his life were taken from him and replaced with pure hatred and despair. Even if he does get out, he's either going to try to sue them for the money he should rightfully receive or if that fails I say he kills the 2 lawyers and his punishment should be time served.. since he was serving time on a murder charge..

That's so sad. I know I personally couldn't live with myself if I sent an innocent man to jail for life.
They wanted to help Logan but legally couldn't.
They're lawyers, can't they challenge the law?

To me, there is something wrong with a justice system that allows criminals to be protected at the expense of innocent people.

This is an extremely sad story, and it is pretty sad that these two lawyers didn't even TRY to help (sending an anonymous letter would have been SOMETHING).

However, I don't agree with the whole they should just get disbarred argument. Their testimony would have been thrown out AND they would have been disbarred, which is not something to be taken lightly..they most likely worked their whole life to become lawyers.
