Unless there is videotaped evidence to the contrary, police investigations are, for the most part, very thorough. I feel sorry for the Mother of this young man. Young people make mistakes all the time, no matter how safety minded they are. Not all end in tragedy, though. I also feel sorry for the bus driver. Even though the report says she wasn't at fault, there will always be things going through her mind. All in all, an unwanted outcome.

I don't think there could be a good outcome.

I bike a lot, and I've seen a lot of BAD bicyclists of all ages. They don't pay attention, listen to music too loud to be able to hear traffic around them, swerve, etc. Same for vehicle drivers, though, so no win either way.

oh sure. blame the dead guy.

On a serious note:
that would suck if he really wasn't responsible for it. When I die I want people to really know what happened.

For some reason, cyclists here seem to think that they don't have to obey traffic laws when their on their bikes. I see cyclists ride through 4-way stops without stopping and running though red lights multiple times a week and I hate it. If I were to be driving and I go through a green light and then out of nowhere comes a cyclist running a red light and we collide, I'm suddenly the one to blame. I hate that so much. I understand that as a driver you need to keep on the lookout for everything, and I do, but seriously, I had better not get in trouble for someone else's negligence.

Of course, I don't want anyone to die, especially a teenager over a stupid mistake.

This doesn't make sense.

Quoth the Article: The actual collision between the bus and the bicyclist occurred west of the intersection on the north side of SW Farmington
Looking at the satellite photo of the intersection, from the description in the article he made a right turn onto the east/west road while heading southbound on the west side of the north/south road. I think the 'off road mixed-use path' is the sidewalk on the north/south road. The bicycle lane is the small area between the white line and the curb on the east/west road.

To make a right turn from the sidewalk to the bicycle lane would not require someone to cross a lane of traffic, he would have gone straight from the sidewalk to the bicycle lane. He was going with traffic, so the bus would have had to have hit him from behind, while he was in the bicycle lane, meaning that the bus was in the bicycle lane.
