Federal protected elephant seals shot to death on their breeding grounds. Initial investigations indicate it was probably at close range, with a high powered weapon.
I hope they bust whoever did this. I visited this rookery about 2 months ago.

For the record--that pic is NOT of a dead seal. It's a sleeping pup, taken when I was up there.
