A Senate subcommittee investigation last year found that hedge fund Amaranth Advisors LLC, which collapsed in 2006 after losing more than $6 billion in natural-gas trades, had shifted its activities to ICE from the regulated Nymex to avoid trading limits, and that the "excessive speculation" raised homeowners' heating bills.

Doesn't anyone understand supply and demand?
The more you want.. the more it's going to cost.
If EVERYONE were to cut back.. prices would drop. But then EVERYONE would buy more and the price would go back up.. and then some.
Find alternate energies.. save yourself!

Find alternate energies.. save yourself! Well there's supply and demand and then there are "speculators". The problem is demand went down, and supply went up and so did prices.
It's not that oil should be cheap, it won't be, but it is artificially inflated right now, and that's on spec, not on reality.

I wish we could do more.. but it's going to take a major organization of consumers to change things. There's too many complacent people out there.. too much apathy.

I wish we could do more.. but it's going to take a major organization of consumers to change things. There's too many complacent people out there.. too much apathy. I don't know how much of it is true since it's hard to prove but I've heard about a lot of cases where advancements are made in environmentally friendly products that the oil company's buy the patents out and bury.
Remember all the electric cars that were destroyed for no reason? That sort of behavior sets us ALL back.
I would use more alternative energy sources if you didn't need to be rich to afford them.
