how can a superintendent be that incredibly stupid and ignorant of the countries basic laws?

He wants "a compromise" if he told one of his employees they had to work for $3.00/hour would he ask to compromise at $4/hour? If a kid or teacher needed a wheelchair would he try denying them the use of it because it messes up the floors and takes up too much space in the halls? Would he then ask to compromise on the issue? And so on and so on for any of dozens of basic rights.

No, there should be no need of a lawsuit. No one should have to sue the school to be allowed such basic rights.

The kid should be allowed his certified service dog and the superintendent should lose his position

you know the US spends hunderds of millions of dollars on convicts and felons, and only a fraction of that on autisum reasearch......I think the US governments priorties are a tad bit off. also did you know that 90% of health insurance companies do not cover autisum with exception of the health concerns. the special education/therapy is not covered at all and can cost anywhere from 50,000 to 100,000 buck a year, out of pocket.

Luckily, my son gets his physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy at the school system (outside therapy place that comes to the school). His insurance actually covers the cost of his therapy, which is really nice.

Its very expensive, and there would be no way I could afford it if insurance didn't cover it.

I don't know how I'd feel if Augi had a therapy dog. I don't think I'd allow the dog to go to the school all day, unless augi was on the severe side. Luckily he's only in the moderate part of the spectrum....so no need for a therapy dog. We have a regular pet that works just fine for him.

That superintendant is woefully ignorant in ADA law. Luckily, my autistic son doesn't need a therapy dog, he just goes to a behavioral therapist and a child psychiatrist, and takes a medication that, without insurance, would cost us about $500 a month.

This superintendent has no business working around any kids at all, much less any children living with disabilities.

FTA, he said he'd ban a seeing-eye dog and have another child lead a blind student around. Excuse me, but what? How is that supposed to work? Last time I checked, child labor is illegal in this country, and kids aren't into a full day at school for themselves plus working for someone else at the same time. Not to mention the sup might be really stupid and choose the class bully as the leader, but I don't even want to think of that. *shudder*

I'm glad my nephew didn't need a service animal when he was in school. He has one now, a cat who figured out for himself how to do some necessary tasks (yes, a self-taught service cat... but that's another story for another day). Normally, the cat doesn't have to go everywhere with my nephew, and the few places he has had to go have been great about it (if for no other reason than the novelty of a service cat). If anyone ever gave my nephew any grief over said cat, they'd be dealing with me for it; and I'm not that nice when someone mucks with my nephews.
