Frozen Grand Central Station: Improv Everywhere (This is AWESOME)
Frozen Grand Central Station: Improv Everywhere (This is AWESOME) [video]
Improv Everywhere strikes again, last time it was a pantless Subway Ride, this time a group of 207 people FREEZE in place for 5 minutes in Grand Central Station, confusing everyone. It is brilliant. picked by MUPPETMAKER 1 year ago

Dammit dammit dammit! How could I have missed this? I didn't get an "agent's message" from Improv everywhere. I see they gathered in Bryant park right across from my office (you can see the white building in the background)

I take the train at Grand Central every day.

Dammit dammit dammit!!!

Put me in mind of Serenity.

Kinda creepy.

I think the overall effect would have been better if they had all just carried on at the end rather than applauding.

They didnt applaud, they people in the Station did.

Improv Everywhere is brilliant, they have strict rules for participation too. Everything you do you do as if it was completely normal. So these people were stone faced and didnt move an inch for 5 minutes, and when the clock hit the right minute, the continued in their strides just like they were when they stopped.

I really need to get more involved with these people.

It looked from the vid as if it were the participants. I assumed it would be them applauding, especially as the first person to start looks as if he were "frozen" before he starts, and that the people watching really wouldn't know what was going on.

People understood it was a performance piece or something impressive thats why they clapped.

If one of them did indeed clap, Im going to slap them with a Fish.

Now there's a new twist in the Improv Everywhere ethos - get a large group together on the pretence of one event. In reality the event is to slap the lone clapper* with a fish. Everyone knows but him. Non-IE members get a show out of it too.

*Assuming there was a lone clapper. If not I'm sure another reason could be found to slap at least one of them with a fish.

What amused me about the vid was that there there were people taking photographs.

Person 1: Check out this picture I took!

Person 2: It's a guy tying his shoe.

Person 1: NO, the guy was frozen!

Person 2: You mean frozen in time by your photograph?

P1: No, the guy froze in the middle of tying his shoe.

P2: Looks like you just took a picture of a guy tying his shoe.

P1: But he was FROZEN!

P2: Your photograph fails to capture his essence.
