What's Your Perfect Vacation?

I want to buy a new motorcycle in southern England, ride it to Land's End on the southern tip and follow a route of country roads all the way up to John O'Groats in Scotland. It would be perfect; we could stop at destination pubs all the way up, (after the days travelling that is), and sample every single malt in stock.

Sounds like a perfect vacation to me! No camping, B&B all the way. All I have to do is convince my wife to ride her own bike rather than riding on the back.

I've always wanted to take a couple of month's and do a WWII Pacific tour. Start at Pearl and visit all of the WWII battle sites (In order, by boat).

I have already been to Guam, Saipan, and Tinian.

Private chartered trimaran. Captain/chef/bartender crewing. At least a month to dive the Belize reefs. Lots of day hiking/exploring. Many days by myself, but also my favorite people meeting up with me for a few days at a time. ahhhh...

YES! Interesting stuff indeed. I recently visited Vimy Ridge and was completely awestruck by it. You get a strong "hallowed ground" sensation while walking there.

I think a tour of Colditz Castle in Germany would be interesting too. (Where all the "bad egg" repeat escapee officers were put together during WW2).

Start of in Reykjavik and explore the entire country of Iceland. Then on to merry old England (again) to do all the really cool stuff I failed to do the first time I was there. Next stop would be the pyramids, then the Mayan and Incan ruins & the Nazca lines.

Then I would go to every so called "genuinely haunted" house or location in the world and sleep there at least three nights.

After all that, a quick jaunt to Paris for some fine French cuisine, over to Belgium for the best beer ever brewed and back to the States to finalize the trip of a lifetime with The Best Pizza Ever Made By Human Hands from The Ale House.

I've always wanted to head on over to the UK and do a self-driven castle tour of England, Wales and Scotland. I would plan my trip to end in Edinburgh, with Edinburgh Castle being my last castle to tour and then remain in town for two weeks during the Military Tattoo (which is going on right now, as a matter of fact). Obviously, I would take the opportunity to see all the other sites and do some pub crawling myself, but the castles would be the main focus.

Back up plan is to be comped a suite in Vegas and have all the time I could stand at the craps tables. Wander up one side of the strip and back down the other, just playing craps at all the casinos along the strip.

:::heavy sigh:::

Can I come with you?! One of my favorite books of all time was Escape From Colditz by Pat Reid. I always wanted to meet him and my dream vacation was to have him give me a guided tour of Colditz, but he passed away in 1990.

Funny you should mention his book. I've been hunting for it lately. I remember the TV series in the UK based on that book. Amazing stuff... that's what happens when you stuff a castle with escapee problem officers!

I can't believe the locals stomped all over the original glider in that castle. Great loss!

I'd love to sail around the world.

I don't really know anything about sailing, and as a prairie kid I'm not really so sure about the ocean, but I think sailing would be so awesome.

I'd have to round up some folks who can sail, but I'd love to circumnavigate the planet; maybe visit every continent while I'm at it (why not?).

I've always wanted to go to South Georgia Island and sailing there would be incredible. I'd visit Tristan da Cunha while I'm at it, maybe St. Helena as well.
