Alright, who's going to see it tonight!? *raises hand franticly*
So fellow plimates... are you excited? Do you think this film is over hyped? What are your thoughts, what are you expecting from this film and do you think it will deliver? Do tell!

We're getting the whole gang together to see the midnight showing tonight, despite the fact that we have to get up first thing tomorrow morning and drive 5 hours. :)
I will see it eventually. I never go on opening night, because if it bombs then my dollar helped make a s**tty movie break the box office (Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Here We Go Again, for example).
I also don't like seeing movies that are surrounded by tons and tons of hype, because they generally tend to suck beyond reason (Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the "I Can't Believe I Paid Seven Bucks To Watch This Nutjob's Ego Trip", for example)
I won't go tonight, but definitely in the next few days.
I do think it is over-hyped though, I am wary of Heath Ledgers role as the Joker, I just don't believe for a second that he can pull it off with the style that Nicholson had. It seems like he done a great job of being a crazy/scary Joker, but in the original Batman the Joker was more than just some crazy gangster. He was this hilarious, charismatic and likable villain.
I am intrigued by it, but no $ for a sitter and a movie at this time. I will probably wait until it is on demand and I can watch it for $5 and not need a sitter. Have fun Chez. Give us a review.

I guess I'll find out soon enough though.
I agree that it's being overhyped, but I'm a diehard Joker fan so I can only cross my fingers that it'll live up to the hype surrounding it. I liked how Nicholson acted, but I never liked his physical portrayal--then again this was the late 80's. In cinematic terms though, it's a classic role. This is a whole different movie though, so comparison is null imho.
As for The Joker's character, it depends which comic you're talking about. Yeah, for the most part he's a funny gangster, but don't forget he has a reaaaaaally f**ked up side to him. In "The Killing Joke" for example, he's so demented and ruthless that he shoots Barbara Gordon at point blank range, opens her blouse and rearanges her body multiple times taking pictures. He later kidnaps and beats commissioner Gordon senseless, then he makes him see all these horrible pictures of his daughter whom he presumes is dead.
Yeah, he makes funny quips while doing derranged things, but don't let the cartoons fool you he's a homicidal lunatic with a sense of humor.
I'm seeing it at the Imax at the MN Zoo. Aparently, they shot the movie with about 20 mins of Imax footage. I saw Batman Begins there and it was awesome.
