If you've played it, obviously.

I started once, and made it to the animal stage, and decided that I wanted to go a different direction, so I started over. The animal stage seems to be the most memorable at this point.

The tribal stage feels like the second or third mission of just about any RTS, you know where they've stopped explaining the power generation mechanics, and you actually fight an enemy with a base. Before you start the tribal stage, you go through a final pass with the creature editor, then you get to use the outfit editor. You are given some money to choose the gear to get from about 5 categories. The only problem is that you get so much money, that you can just buy nearly everything, so the bonuses to combat and socialization mean almost nothing.

I ended up making it to the space stage, and an achievement popped up for going from cell to space in one continuous game. I didn't think it was much of an achievement until I looked at the clock and noticed that I had been playing for 7 hours already.

I'll put some more thoughts up later, if anyone seems interested, I need sleep now.

I've been dreading the release of Spore.

I haven't played it yet, but I know when I do, I too will get sucked in for hours at a time...

Well, who needs "family" time anyway???

I won't be buying Spore for the same reason I can't play WOW. I have to leave the house for work and social activities, and I don't have enough brain capacity to do that AND play these. *sigh*
I'll have to Spore vicariously through you, froggie.

My question is:

Is it worth it?

I was bored with the creature editor in a day.

One of my coworkers bragged to me this morning that she's "already beaten" Spore. Methinks she doesn't get it.

I finally managed to get the game to install, and I'm enjoying it a lot. I haven't played a game for that long in over two months.
I've just started the tribal phase, and yeah, you get a bit too much money. I just bought what served my species playstyle(Herbivore, peaceful, social), and then just added what looked good. I didn't use all of the points.
I want to make a nearly useless species next...Or a massive carnivore.
First I need to screw around with the vehicles, though.

I dunno. I've read that a lot of people are having trouble with the DRM, or just don't like that they included the DRM. I can tell you this though, a torrent that I saw for it was a week old yesterday, the day it was released. They didn't have any trouble getting through that DRM.

As for the bang for your buck, I'd give it a few months till they knock at least $10 off the price.

Yeah, be warned that there's a 3 install limit on each disk, and those installs are eaten up by reformatting your hard drive or changing graphics cards. If you reformat your computer often or upgrade it often, then I advise against purchasing Spore. That is, unless you enjoy being put on hold by crappy customer service trying to get some installs refunded.

Good, then she'll no longer be needing her copy. Have her send it to me.

Ok, I'm weak, I admit it. I'm acquiring Spore as we speak... er, type. Hopefully I'll have it running by tomorrow.
I'll forward Mr. Grey's complaints about my zombification to all of you.

lol yeah.

a creature i made to look like two large testicles chased me...they were friggin huge! - it was a moment of geek comedy.

omg i'm being chased by testicles!

My brother said he added me to his buddy list, so my creatures were showing up in his game...LOL.

i'll have to ask if he's seen my testicles.

lmao!

Haha. So far, all I've encountered was a creature that resembled a scantily clad harpy.
I can't wait to see a race of space faring genitalia. That would be awesome. Especially if their ships were also questionable.

The DRM on Spore?

It may have just killed my DVD drive. It's been known to do so, and DVD's will not read.

Now I'm pissed.

So i finally caved in last night and entered my first cheat code.

space is a tough place man!!!

i'm still trying to pickup on the processes of the game - there seem to be so many intricate details within the game. it's interesting how simple the first stages of the game are compared to the space stage.

i need to find some kind of online guide...

We bought it the day it came out. We had to get 3 copies because the kids, me and LH all want to play and since they are not even allowed to look at our Macs and there is no way we were getting off the couch to use the PC, we had to buy 3.

LH's son is the farthest followed behind by haleyesque and then me. The youngest has tried it but she cheated and skipped the cell stage.

I love it but have not spent too much time on it. I am in creature stage and trying to get the darn stuff so I can imitate the other creatures to impress them. I don't like fighting. I makes me sad. Mostly because I die each time. Me thinks I should use my mouse instead of the touch pad. It might work out better for me. I will update as I get further.
