Oak Lines IL has taken a new approach to getting People to stop at Stop Signs. By adding red octagons stamped with "... IN THE NAAME OF LOVE!" or "... AND SMELL THE ROSES."

It might be too soon to know whether the alternative signs will work. But while the mayor was posing for a photo with one of the new signs, a driver sped by without stopping.

I think that speaks for itself.

I really don't think the signs will deter motorists from flying through stop signs. But, as they say, it will help to raise awareness.

Well it does seem like a cool idea, and I even had the thought that the signs should at the very least rotate so you never know what it will say. But then, if someone is going to roll the stop while the Mayor is posing for a picture! LOL. Not even a rubber neck moment??? Oh well. How about this one....

I live in a relatively small town, and some of the kids a coupla streets away printed out stickers that said "Hammertime" "In the Name of Love" and "Collaborate and Listen" and stuck them on all of our (15) stop signs.

It was hilarious, but the police took them down and the whole town got a letter saying it was a very very naughty thing to do.

Were actually a small town in the middle of one of the biggest cities in the US.

So when you mix small town-ness with the looming presence of the industry all around, weird things happen.

That's what I was thinking when I saw the link.

I think a nice addition would be one that says "collaborate and listen" under the stop sign as well....
