 R.I.P. Captain America
R.I.P. Captain America
Today's a sad day in Marvel Comics. 66 years after his first appearance, Steve Rogers gets shot to death in Captain America #25, which hit stores today. picked by runninutes 2 years ago

It's kind of depressing that this hit me fairly hard - I know it's just a comic, but this somehow seems more significant to me than when DC killed Superman (which happened during the height of my comic-collecting days).

*sigh* As sad as killing him is, it's actually sadder to me that it doesn't mean anything. So... what's the over/under on when he'll officially be back among the living? I'm betting just one year.

Well, at least that time it took them, what - 25 years to bring him back?

This guy takes on the Red Skull but gets offed by a sniper bullet? What a crappy way to go.

But if Steve Rogers is dead, that doesn't preclude someone else from donning the red, white and blue outfit. That tactic kept Green Lantern active for years.

Definitely true. If I remember right, someone else was already Captain America at least once.

As for GL, I can think of 5 human GLs off the top of my head. Of course, I actually have a custom-made GL ring, so I'm probably not the most average guy to ask about the subject...

Red Skull was killed by a sniper bullet to. Kind of fitting really, both men formed from the same super agent DNA, both killed by something not so super.

I would mourn Captain America, but they'll likely create a clone of him in a few months. He has always been a really good hero that somehow flew under the radar. I mean, yeah everyone knows who he is, but not everyone really appreciated all the work that went into that character.

No one is ever dead "forever" in comics, ESPECIALLY not in the Marvel universe.:) I've never been a Cap fan, but it's always sad to see a comic icon wiped out. :(

The answering machine at the X-mansion: "You have reached the Xavier School. If you are calling for Jean Grey, we're sorry to inform you that she has passed away. Leave your name and number and she'll return your call as soon as possible."
