I wonder if the kiddies know that pet shops sell rats to be fed to snakes.

this is sad. what's going to happen to these rats in a few months when a lot of the kids get bored with them?

Around Easter, the sales of rabbits goes up only to have the kids/family lose interest and they either are "let go" or they try to take it back. It is sad for the rabbit either way. I imagine it is the same here.

Actually they will probably let them go and the rats will all start extremely rapidly growing families. At which point the people who bought them will try to kill them with poisons.

That or they'll cause a plague.

Many pet shops with responsible managers halt the sale of rabbits and chicks around Easter for this reason. Takes two responsible people to sell a pet, the owner and the buyer. If either one is irresponsible in regards to the animal then it's a sad thing.

But the shop owners should know better.

I never understood this. I watched many movies with animals in them when I was younger, but I know my parents certainly wouldn't be stupid enough to get me the same animal just because the movie made it appealing.

Also, rats are awsome and I would have gotten one if they didn't terrify my mother.

I have had a slew of pet ratties since high school. My current one is named Xander. Yes, Xander as in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Xander.

My last one was Jabba and my very first one was Perry.

I loves me some ratties.

They are actually very good pets. They cuddle, kiss and a few I have had even come when called. The only sad part is, they don't have the longest life span and it is sad to watch them get old.

I only hope that this fad of rats doesn't mean there are going to be a lot of neglected pets living with smelly shavings and empty water bottles.

Not pet rats. Or fancy rats as they are known in the trade.
