I've literally looked at a copy of a game at Gamestop, gave it back to the salesman and drove over to a Fry's Electronics to buy it.
I loathe them a little more each time I see it.
But, I'm a PC Gamer, and they really don't cater to me. screw that.

I don't know about Gamestop, but this attitude of second hand games hurting the industry is naive and short sighted. Looks like the games business is trying to learn all of the worst lessons from the music business.
The 2nd hand market boosts the sales of new games.
More often than not, it will be the kids who are trading their old games to buy new ones.

I buy used games from GameStop all the time. I've never had one give me even the slightest bit of trouble.

I bought a used copy of Morrowind: The Elder Scrolls from GameStop. Tried to play it, it didn't work. Took it back to get another used copy. Again, it didn't work. Gave up on the used stuff and bought a new copy, which of course, worked perfectly.
Apparetly I didn't learn my lesson; I went to a different GameStop and purchased a used copy of MTV Music Generator 2. It worked for about 15 minutes then stalled. After cleaning the disk and restarting it about 4 times, it didn't work and til this day the game has never worked. I didn't even bother taking it back; I didn't pay that much for it anyway.
I offically learned my lesson with GameStop and will not buy anything used from them again.

I used to buy used PC games when you find them, but it seems no one sells them anymore.
I never had a problem with any used game I purchased.
I agree that the sale of used games does not hurt the industry in the least. That is just silly. It might, just might have a detrimental effect on the companies ability to sell their old games, but that is minor. It also helps sales. Person buys an used copy of an old game, enjoys it and buys the new game in the series.

For this exact reason I have friends who wont even step foot into Gamestops. Or at least not buy any used games.

I usually look for the game I want used first and then if I can't find it I will buy it new. I have had maybe 2 games not work that I bought used. Not bad if you think about it. I like the fact that I can trade in a game that I already beat and buy another one.

Every used PSP game I purchased at Gamestop worked perfectly. I usually had to go online to get a manual but the game itself worked great. I have even traded in my old N64 and all the games I had to purchase some PC games. By selling used games they perpetuate the "species". Sometimes you can't find them anywhere else.

Agreed, I've had to buy used games because the company stopped producing them(And one current gen console. R.I.P. 60 gig.). And I don't have many problems with the used games I buy. Sure, one or two didn't work, but quite a few NEW games didn't work for me either.

Is he calling for a ban on used games? Absolutely not, but the quickness with which games become new, then used, may have a big impact on profits going to the right people.
That's the problem right there. Gamestop is profiting by reselling the used games, while the publishers and developers don't receive anything from this process.
But if you think about it, the game was new at some point, so they got their due ... they should definitely lower those obscenely high used game prices though, other than that, I see no problem.

I haven't bought a new game in a long time. Used games were bought once and I don't need to buy a new copy if one is not being used. I have never had a problem with a used game, and if I did I would complain and return it.
