Agreed. I love everything he did. His legacy does live on, as you said, dolly.

Along with his DNA sample, Clarke enclosed a note with a brief handwritten wish addressed to that far-flung future: "Fare well, my clone."
:) Always had an eye on the future that one.

The science fiction world has lost a major player today. He and his workings will indeed be sorely missed.

It's not often I'll pitch in to threads about dead people, but since I first became aware of him (Mysterious World) he has been a fairly constant presence.

"Somewhere in me is a curiosity sensor. I want to know what's over the next hill. You know, people can live longer without food than without information. Without information, you'd go crazy"

He's just finding out what's over that next hill now.

Wow. At least he lived to a ripe old age...
I'm going to throw a bone up into the air while humming 'The Blue Danube' in his honor.

I felt really bad about it, but it's one of those things you just can't help. To quote Ray Stanz, 'It just....popped in there'.
But when I first heard about the huge Tsunami in Sri Lanka in December 05, the first thing I thought of was "I hope ACC is okay".
Don't get me wrong, I was also sad for all those who died then (and still am) but for some reason, I couldn't stop thinking about ACC the whole time. I guess it's just because he's the only person I've ever heard of in the whole effected region, but every time I'd hear news on it I kept hoping they'd mention he was okay.

I read the 2001 series as well as RAMA, and the man was clearly a genius. I knew he'd also been very involved in science and technology (though I didn't know he was instrumental in the invention of Radar), and I know he worked with Sierra in developing the RAMA computer game. I never played that, but I heard from someone who did that the degree of scientific innate intellegence someone has to have to beat that game was unreal. I always wanted to try that game, ever since I first read an article about it years ago in Sierra's magazine, where they had a story on the time they traveled to meet Clarke in Sri Lanka, only to have their hotel bombed by a terrorist. (they were okay).
