Holy Carp! Posted: 8 months ago by doggylives
CNN reporter David Mattingly is doing a story on Asian carp invasion of the Illinois River and the rest of the Mississippi river system. The carps are unusual in that they actually leap out of the water into the boat!

i've seen another video article about this. it better addresses the question of "so why don't we catch and eat asian carp?"
the answer was, that the fish were too bony to efficiently prep for food products. pity, being they're so feaking easy to catch.
though, my questions still hasn't been answered .. would they bee good to use in organic fertilizers? or for fish oil supplements and the like?

They are fine to eat
Taken from an interview with a fisherman who catches them;
"The fish weigh at least 15-to-25 pounds each, and some are much larger. They fetch about 14 cents a pound. That's not a lot, but Briney says the huge volume of carp he catches more than makes up for the low price-per-pound. Since he started fishing for carp, Briney says he's doubled his income."
"Some people say that smoked, it's better than salmon, but the name "carp" is likely putting non-ethnic Americans off trying the fish."
THIS article comes up with a brilliant win-win solution to the problem, feed them to zoo animals.
"The ground carp still has all the nutrition of the whole fish, but by restructuring, you have better control of the nutritional content."

i went to college at a school along the illinois river in oklahoma and we didn't have anything like that here...at least then. we have all the chicken farms polluting the river so that probably kills them anyway!
looks like you could have some fun with a helmet and a baseball bat! i am sure it would be messy though.
