Ever struggled to sit through a movie, but by the end were glad you did? Some movies are just too boring, too gruesome, or just plain too weird - but somehow are still great. I've seen most of those movies, and they are quite difficult to watch in places, but they're still really good. Hard Candy is AMAZING!
The Fountain, not so much...

Wow... I guess if you thought Saw and Hostel were awesome, then you might agree with this list. Those are not the kind of movies I like, so I'm gonna have to pass on most of these.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, I've seen The Fountain, and agreed 100% with the author. Tough to make it through, but worth having done so.

I'd add 2001 to this list. It's supposed to be one of the great classics of sci-fi, but it's SO long and hard to stay interested in (I know not everyone will agree, but I also know I'm not alone).

Depending on your level of Hitchcock fandom, I'd also argue for the remake of Psycho. It's a shot-for-shot remake, which will probably make you question "why make it?" but it still serves as a real testament to how great the original was.

(My wife's a huge fan of Hitchcock - we watched the original and the remake nearly back-to-back one weekend.)

Glad they put "hard candy" on the list...very difficult to watch.

Haven't seen the others on the list.

I must see Hard Candy now. I must.

The others don't really hold any interest for me.

The Fountain was incredibly pretty, and I loved it for the sake of fairy tales. I won't suggest I understood it, but I did enjoy it.

Hard Candy was also awesome, worth every minute. A'course, I'm probably just fine with torturing pedophiles.

Meet the Feebles was not awesome. It was something you watch (drunk if you can be) because bloody everyone else has seen it. Because it's terrible. The last few minutes of the movie do NOT redeem it.

Blair Witch: really? No.

The rest I haven't seen, although I recognize some as recommendations from various friends.

I thought Saw and Hostel were funny. The latter was probably the most amusing movie I saw all that year. Well, no, didn't Silent Hill come out around the same time? Blergh, I don't know, but it amused me as well.

Psycmoe: enjoys getting smashed and watching gore flicks.

Blair Witch is really an overrated piece of junk.

Seriously? Hostel gave me nightmares.

Ok, not really, but that was one f**ked up movie.

I agree completely, luckily when the first one came out, I saw it early enough that no one was really sure if it was real or not (small town). That made it much more enjoyable, but then the cast presented an award on MTV and then there was a sequel, which kind of ruined it.

I refuse to watch Hostel or Saw or other sort of SHOCKINGLY VIOLENT AND GRAPHIC films, because SHOCKINGLY VIOLENT AND GRAPHIC is usually the only leg they have to stand on.

The fountain was the best one on the list but Hard Candy was pretty great too. I liked Elephant alright too, but I've gotten to the point where I can't really stand Gus Van Zant, he seems like the kind of pompous filmmaker who doesn't make films he makes ART! This is a MASTERPIECE! The same trick gets old, Last Days is one of the worst films I've ever seen.

I can honestly say that The Fountain is the only of those movies that might appeal to me. Blood and guts isn't something I find entertaining, and no amount of cinematic excellence will bring the dehumanization and graphic violence, mostly against women, into a sensible place in my world.

Sorry.

Yes, actually. God, when she jumps in front of the train? "I ain't pretty no mo!" Lol.

The hardest thing for me to watch about Hard Candy is that the character that Ellen Page plays is the same age and has the same name as my daughter.

Obviously there are numbers of other movies that could have made the list. I expected to see Pink Flamingos there somewhere as that one is a much tougher watch than say, Ichi the Killer.
I found Irreversible to be the most boring movie ever and I still don't see what people claim is so shocking or amazing about it. The only amazing thing is that I managed to stay awake for the whole movie.
Glad to see Hard Candy on the list. This is the movie that made me a fan of Ellen Page before Juno came along and ruined it. LOL. I was actually on the girl's side from beginning to end and never once felt sympathy for the jerk she was messing with. It was one of those rare movies where I had decided to buy the DVD before the movie was even over.

I'm surprised everyone liked Hard Candy so much. Personally I thought it was a nice idea but very poorly executed.

The best movie on the list, in my opinion, is "Audition". The desciption the site gives it is a bit misleading though, because although it does have some really intense violence near the end, it really is more of a traditional horror movie for most of the way through. I definitely recommend checking it out if you haven't seen it.

I've seen one movie from that list - Audition. My friend was into watching scary movies and made me watch it too. Quite disturbing.
