A selection of history's most notable cult writing. Some is classic. Some is catastrophic. All of it had the power to inspire.

I'm surprised that there are no Chuck Palahniuk or George Orwell books there.

I've read:
Dianetics (thankfully didn't get involved in the stupid cult)
The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy
Godel, Escher, Bach: an Eternal Golden Braid
I own but haven't read yet:
A Confederacy of Dunces
The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail
I can't believe the Illuminatus Trilogy isn't on here.
For that matter, the Discworld series

I've read 8 - actually 7 and 1/2, gave up halfway through The Celestine Prophecy.
And there are quite a few that I still want to read...

How can there not be any books by Isaac Asimov (especially from the Foundation series) on a list of cult books?

I work in a public library, and I've only read 4 of them. I'd better expand my reading list to more than just serial killer novels.

I have read 9 of these.
So nyah.
But I'm definately going to pick some of these up the next time I hit Borders.
(and I still utterly detest the Hitchhikers Guide...)

I own two and I've read four and I love the Hitchhikers Guide; it's freaking hilarious. I read it in high school. Maybe I should read it again. I'll send pictures of myself immensely enjoying the Guide to DEP to show him how much fun it is is and make him sad that he isn't having as much fun.
..Did that make any sense?

« dOntEAtpOOp:(and I still utterly detest the Hitchhikers Guide...) For years I just chuckled in a know-it-all, superior sort of way when people suggested that I should read the Hitchhikers Guide - it sounded like a stupid theme, and the first chapter of the first book was not really inspiring. But sometime during the third attempt, it suddenly clicked, I got my mind up to (down to?) the right level of ridiculous humour, and now I feel like reading it again and again. Just like the other 3 books in the four-part trilogy.
I mean, just knowing the ultimate misery of the paranoid android, hearing about the planet-shattering performances of Disaster Area, not to mention the tremendous achievements of Slartybartfast, fjord-designer, has made me a better person. Well, at least it has made me grateful for my relatively normal life.
