We can also get free CDs by going to your home when you're not there. The link in the article is a legal one offered by the band.

Downloading a copy of an album is hardly comparable with breaking into someone's home and stealing a physical piece of property is it!!

I won't get into this with you but I will just say that downloading music has opened me up to artists I'd have never heard and then I've gone on to buy their albums when I like them. Which is precisely the reason why a lot of artists appreciate the free publicity and exposure that downloading gives

*edit* While you wouldn't be welcome to steal a physical cd from me I'd be more than willing to let you make a copy of it. See how that works?

I found a nice quote from NIN's lead singer, he's talking about the illegal music download site OiNK.cd that was recently shut down...

of course I know that pirating a copy is not as bad as physically stealing a copy. Duh. That has no bearing on anything.

The point is (forget for the moment that everyone is quite familiar with thepiratebay) posting an illegal site in response to the artists offering a free LEGAL version is not the proper thing to do.

First up it was a light-hearted comment, second NIN is a band who "illegally" download themselves. So what did I do that's so "not proper" here?
