One myth I'm trying to find out more about is that, in California, a first offense seat belt ticket is, according to the vehicle code on the DMV website, only $20.
But my father-in-law recently received a seatbelt ticket, and it was over $90!!! So is there a class action lawsuit against the state about overcharging on this ticket?
(NB - I am all for wearing your seatbelt always, but I am also all for the authorities doing what the law says.)
Also, how can we convince Dad to always wear that belt? He just never does, and it makes us sad. He's an old time cabbie/garage attendant/car dude.
