The greatest start to the greatest TV show ever
The greatest start to the greatest TV show ever [video]
If you never saw Monkey (aka Saiyūki), you may be a little confused by this, but trust me, it was awesome. If you did watch it, you'll probably call out "Irrepressible" just when the time comes.

If you want to join in:

In the worlds before Monkey, primal chaos reigned. Heavens sought order. But the phoenix can fly only when its feathers are grown. The four worlds formed again and yet again, as endless aeons wheeled and passed. Time and the pure essences of Heaven, the moisture of the Earth, the powers of the Sun and the Moon all worked upon a certain rock, old as creation. And it became magically fertile. That first egg was named "Thought". Tathagata Buddha, the Father Buddha, said, "With our thoughts, we make the World". Elemental forces caused the egg to hatch. From it came a stone monkey. The nature of Monkey was irrepressible!

Born from an egg on a mountain top
The punkiest monkey that ever popped
He knew every magic trick under the sun
To tease the Gods
And everyone and have some fun

Monkey magic, Monkey magic (repeat 4 times)

(Original Japanese version can be found on YouTube if you search for Godiego - the band who sang it).

This might explain it a little.

It is more of an experience thing than something that can be explained.

There's a time in everyone's life when a TV show about a stone monkey god who flies around on a cloud and kicks the ass of demons with a staff that fits in his ear but grows bigger than a telegraph pole is the perfect thing.

Oh, and he hangs out with a sex and food obsessed man-pig, a humble fish demon who eats humans, both of whom are really disgraced officers in the armies of heaven, a talking horse who is really a dragon and never actually says that much and a boy priest who is really a hot bald woman, but no-one mentions it.

If you didn't experience it at the right time in your life, I'm not sure that anyone can adequately explain it to you.
