Sony's game division saw a 26% sales spike last quarter
That is where the money is anyway. Consoles always lose money. It is the game software where the company's recoup their investments. I still have faith. DIE HARD ENTHUSIAST, EH!

True!
Sony succeeded in establishing their Blu-ray against the HD-DVD only because they sold so many units of the PS3.
Even the stores don't make any money by selling the consoles.

By the way, i recently found out, that importing the console from the US is cheaper than buying one here (i live in germany), though i would have to pay about 19% import tax.

Well, only Mario has the right to cheer, since only the Wii has been making money from the get go.

The X360 has been losing money as well, also in the billions. And the RROD didn't help as well.
Not to mention that the original Xbox NEVER made money.

I spent more time watching the RROD on the 360 than actually playing games with it.

Except for the Wii.

Which is an interesting twist as it was Nintendo who came up with the concept of selling consoles at a loss and then making the money back on the games.

Before that, games were usually around 10 ($20) a pop. Everyone said that Nintendo were crazy and it would never work.

That's been said about Nintendo quite a lot* over the years but they generally manage to pull it off.

*It's been said a lot about Sony too - "A way of listening to my choice of music as I walk down the street without disturbing anyone else? That's insane I tell you, insane."

EDIT: writing this was much interrupted by work, hence not seeing Mr Spew's comments until after I clicked submit.
