Christ this article scared the crap out of me.
been widely tipped by critics, as well as Caine, to receive a posthumous Oscar.
I thought Caine was dead.

The arrest was postponed so that he could attend the premier - another example of a celebrity being treated differently by the law.
If it had been average Joe Public who was accused of committing a violent crime against two women I doubt very much he'd be allowed to finish his shift before he was arrested.

Well, let's see what actually happened first. As you may recall, "assault" has been used to describe almost anything in the UK (i.e. taking pictures of thugs).

Also it is even worse since the people he assaulted are his mother and sister. That would make the crime even worse (at least here in the US)
=================================
Somehow I don't think his mom and sister filed a police report because he took a picture of them.

And yes, Heath will probably steal an Oscar from a more deserving actor. Nothing like an early death to turn a drug addicted mediocre actor into an Actor of great renown - provided he's also young and cute of course.

Ledgers performance was quite good so the more deserving part is quite debatable. And he wasn't a drug addict, the pills that were near him were prescription and it was determined, last I heard, that they weren't the cause of death.
What's got your panties in a bunch?

What's got your panties in a bunch? I am speaking the truth as I see it. There was a lot of oddness behind the death. The fact that those particular pills were prescribed doesn't mean he was just another in a long long history of young drug users who died.
Perhaps I am wrong. I sincerely doubt it. My "panties" as you so quaintly put it are certainly not in a bunch.

This has to be one of the most vile, tasteless, and utterly disgusting things I've ever read. Have you seen the movie? Are you judging the performance? Just reacting to a number of critics who have already stated that he deserves the award? Trolling? That's pretty despicable to discredit a talent because he died of a drug overdose.
Yeah man that Jimi Hendrix, what a hack.

I'm going to cry. I have made the moral sin of insulting the cute hottie and now I'm being downvoted. Being downvoted more than 80 points for this is remarkably amusing.
My point is he was a drug user. Who cares about that, I certainly don't but he was no God like some die-hard fans are making him out to be.
The oscars like any other voting process has always been about much more than just the best nominee.
His death will give him more than enough sympathy votes to get the statue. Was he good in the role? Perhaps. Was he the best of they year? Perhaps, but doubtful. What isn't doubtful is a large percentage of his expected winning is because of his death.
I know there are a couple of you who won't listen to logic or explanations. You will just act out of emotion because I besmirched your favorite poster boy.

here's a question.
who gives a f**k about the oscars?
regardless if he wins or loses, its a popularity contest and should be regarded as such.
I downvoted you because your comment about Heath was off-topic and I believe you were effectively trolling. Heath Ledger did an amazing job as the joker, the fact that he died of a drug overdose doesn't take anything away from that.

Seriously, have you seen the movie? If you haven't you really have no place to make any sort of call on whether or not he deserves the award. You can insult me better than that. Everyone here can show you many times where I admitted I was wrong.
Have I seen the movie? Have you seen every single movie made this year to make the decision that his portrayal was the best? My point was not that he wasn't good in the role but that he will gain sympathy votes that will likely put him over the edge. It is quite possible that he will win based on sympathy and not his talent in playing a character like the Joker.
The fact that now I have been downvoted over 100 points for stating some simple facts and suppositions, not even an insult shows how sad some of the TeenBeat-reading voters are. Seriously there are far more grievous things that can be said that are deserving of a downvote. Remarking that an actor is a drug user and that he will get sympathy votes nets me over -100 points? Wow.

Heath Ledger did an amazing job as the joker, the fact that he died of a drug overdose doesn't take anything away from that. Why didn't you downvote Unzercharlie? He brought up the fact about the expected oscar win. My comment was done as a reply to his comment. My reply to his comment wasn't trolling.
The article also mentioned it so even if UC didn't bring it up it would still be on topic.
You're right it is a popularity contest. It isn't supposed to be, but it is. That was my point. As in any popularity contest, dying will garner you many votes that would have gone to another.
I didn't say he was any less of a person for using drugs. My god I would assume that a larger number of us have used drugs at some point. Even if they don't, they are probably addicted to other drugs that are detrimental but are accepted because they are legal, i.e. caffeine, nicotine, alcohol, etc
My point wasn't to detract from him because he was a drug user, but just to comment that he is just another young actor who died early - quite possibly from drugs (prescribed or otherwise). My point was not to detract from him, but to bring him off the pedestal that a certain group has put him on.

My reply to your quote that Heath is expected to win an oscar even before 1/2 the year's movies are shown does not equal going off topic. (Your quote remarked on Heath, not you yourself)
As I said, even if you didn't quote it, it would be on topic.
besides we now know that it was because I said Heath was mediocre that earned me the downvote.
edit after your edit:
No arguing with my logic? What exactly are you arguing?
My points are
1) Dying will always gain you sympathy votes in a contest like the oscars. It has in the past, it will now and it will in the future.
2)Heath Ledger was just another young actor who died way before his time. The absolute worship that is given to him is a bit excessive, but understandable because of his dying.
That's it. Please tell me which of those points you are arguing?
I imagine there is no point to argue so instead you just go on a downvoting spree which is your standard response.
